Vanilla yogurt? Is it okay to use vanilla yogurt, or should I stick to plain? ( it is the low fat organic vanilla from Trader Joe's) Thank you much! |
Using vanilla will probably add some sugar - but ya know, if your baby's diet is healthy - it really shouldn't be a huge deal, especially if she loves it. And, you're probably not giving all that much anyway. Who loves the plain anywho, ya know? Bleh. :p |
i've had SUCH a hard time finding plain (no idea why) so i stick with vanilla or strawberry organic... but Layla is lactose intolerant (amoung other things :p) so she only gets a very small amount at bed with with some Gerber fruit babyfood. |
I actually just got her, but was told at night to give her some kibble with chicken broth. But because of the high sodium in it I was going to give her a little yogurt instead with the kibble. The food she is on now is lower in quality , but because we just got her I wanted to wait for her to settle in before I switched to a top quality food. ( I don't want to stress her) |

Dannon's Activia comes in plain. That's what I buy for Lady. |
Vanilla yogust is just fine. The sugar is a very small amount and can actually help her from becoming hyglocemic. It may also keep her tmmy healthy as you are switching foods, too!!! |

We have never tried vanilla....just stuck with plain but I hate having to purchase the plain in such big containers. |

As for the pups, a small amount of yogurt with sugar is fine but I really prefer the plain. I don't give Ellie refined sugar on a regular basis and if I did, she would probably rather have ice cream. I don't give yogurt often but I think I've given her plain, vanilla and probably strawberry. |
I usually buy a few of the larger tubs of yogurt from Trader Joes because that is what I eat for breakfast with granola. :) I figure the cultures will help her with the switch too. |
I can find the plain here pretty easily but mostly in the super large container (Stonyfield Farms Organic) and by the time the expiration date rolls around I still have almost half left so I try to buy the small fat free vanilla containers. Izzy gets yogurt every morning as her breakfast and I haven't had a problem and like the others said it's not a lot of sugar and that little bit will help and with the tummy too.:D |
I don't think that the amount of sugar you're giving (per serving) is as big a deal as whether you're buying yogurt with the LIVE ACTIVE cultures in it....there's a TON of yogurts out there nowadays, and a lot of them Do NOT have the live active cultures...which is really what you're buying it for. I have no problem finding plain, but I don't think I could get my dogs to eat it for anything anyhow. The flavored ones are much more appealing to them. I'd look for either the non fat or the low fat ones though. Even the non fat have a fair amount of sugar in them, so just be judicious in their use. |
I give plain organic yogurt and I buy it in small containers in the organic section of my grocery store. Punkin loves it! I still end up throwing some away each week as she only gets a little each day. I prefer not giving sugar in the yogurt. Instead Punkin gets a small amount of sugar from a taste of ice cream every once in a while. |
Stoneyfield Organic and Dannon Naturals both have great active cultures in them. You can find the Dannon Naturals in small containers, but not in plain!!! If you are buying non-fat, make sure to check the ingredients as most of these contain artificual sweeteners which can be very harmful to our little pups. Opt for the low-fat without any artificial sweeteners. |
Make sure that there are no artificial sweeteners in it...If there are, I would stay away from it. I used to feed the vanilla to Miko sometimes, but he really likes the plain Stonyfield organic non-fat yogurt :) |
