I am also interested to see if the lotion has worked. I have an appt for my little man. I bought him a month ago (8mths old) from this lady who never took him to the vet. The week I had bought him I immediately took him to the vet. and found out he had roundworms. ugh!! I couldn't believe it. He has been treated and we find out on the 5th if they are all gone! Fingers crossed but these past two weeks it has been cold out here and he only weighs 2lbs. and I have been putting sweaters on him. and I started noticing he has flakes coming off his skin. so i have been putting omega 3 in his food and putting a oil treatment on his hair. now i notice a little odor. He is not itchy and doesnt notice the flakes. I just want to make sure he is okay. and want to make sure i am doing everything possible to avoid the itchies. He is currently on Dog Whisperer Dog food by Cesar Milan. and am thinking of changing it to Holistic Select by Eagle pack. I think he could have an allergy to something in his current food. Sorry so long! |
There are some great solutions in this thread. Omegas are always great for these babies; keep in mind that a dog's body always uses Vitamin E to process fish oil, so if you use fish oil you should also supplement with vit. E -- or buy Eicosaderm (vetamerica.com) which has the fish oil with the vitamin E already in it. Also, skin is an elimination organ -- so when there is a problem, it is beneficial to try to work from the inside out by looking at diet first and supplementation following that. If the skin is irritated, it can be bc something is irritating the system from the inside. If food doesn't help the issue (after elimination diets), then envioronmental/seasonal allergies could be present -- for which you still want a more simple diet (bc the immune system is already challenged and then more vulnerable to food allergies) -- and probably need supplement support, symptom support (from the outside), and meds as a last resort. :) |
