EVO versus Wellness Supermix 5 Hello all, Thanks for the input on my baby Daisy's digestive problems and diet recently. Based on some of your comments and advice, I have switched her to Innova EVO small bites meat formula. The switched happened faster then I would have liked, but she refused to eat the old food once I put a little EVO in her bowl with it. After a couple of days of a little upset stomach and some loose stools, she seems to be doing very well on it. No diarrea for 5 days which is a relief for me and especially my mom. Daisy also seems to really like the taste. One question for you food guru's out there. I have read where the high protein % of the EVO could be hard on small dogs. I also have access to Wellness supermix 5 lamb and rice. Would that be a better choice? I would not even dream about starting to switch her over for a month or so do to the problems we have had for the last month, but if that would be better for her over the long run, I would consider it. |
Higher protein, in my opinion, is great for dogs. The only time it's really a problem is for dogs who have liver/kidney/pancreas/etc. problems. Often times, higher protein diets are more nutrient dense, so be aware of how much volume you should be feeding. The only issue I sometimes have about EVO is that, for whatever goofy reason, they made it higher in fat - which I'm not a fan of. So, be aware of that - it can cause issues, usually nausea, but sometimes diarrhea as well. If she is thriving on it though, I wouldn't change a thing - this can be a great food for dogs who aren't sensitive to the fat issue. I would choose it over Wellness, if I fed kibble - but I feed raw. :p |
