Fish Oil?? Hey guys, I give my babies the Grizzly Salmon Oil and they love it. However, since I free feed I'm never sure who's getting the most of it. I just pump some in and they share it. I honestly don't believe any of them are getting the amount that they should. However, I'm not sure how else to give them it. Pia and Paisley don't have dry skin but Snoot and Trixie tend to have issues from time to time. I have Omega Fish Oil softgels here and I was wondering if these would be safe to give? I'm almost out of the Grizzly Oil and thought about trying these for a change. The bottle I have here says that they are 1000mg. This seems high to me but then again I don't know much about this stuff. When Trixie was a puppy she had dry skin and the vet gave us a bottle of what seems to be the same as these fish oil caps. However, the vet's bottle was $25 and the bottle from Wal-Mart was about $5. If these are safe, how much would be safe to give? Snoot weighs about 13-15 lbs. and all my girls are under 5 lbs. Thanks for the help guys. :D |
Just incase the weight really matters I looked at their papers from the last vet visit. Snoot 13.4 Trixie 4.6 Paisley 3.12 Pia 2.0 However, I think they've all gained a little since starting them on this new food. Thanks again for the help. :) |
bump...bump Good ?! I'd really like to know the answer too. I've used the Fish Oil capsules in the past & hope the dosage was ok? |
I don't know about the capsules, but can you put the oil on treats and give it to Snoot and Trixie? |
There are difference in products as to what is soluable to the body. Others are harder to break down in the system. You want something that is water soluable that is easier to get into the system. I'm not sure about the dosage. I hope someone else answers you and we will all know for sure. |

I've tried putting the oil on a treat but they turn their heads to it. I have no idea why since they like it on the food. |
My Mandy needed to have the V3 caps liquid and the vet said based on her weight of 6.4 lbs at the time give her a heaping teaspoon a day. I just squirt it down her throat as with 9 dogs it is the only way to make sure she gets it. I figured two good pumps makes it. |

The bottle I have here says that they are 1000mg. I have had direct contact with Omega's rep, and advised to not give animals Fish Oil Softgels, only Omega products made for dogs or cats. Good luck. |
Sorry I can't answer your question. When I give Destiny or any of the others something, I will use a dropper and squirt in it her mouth or let her lick from it. It is the only way you are really sure they are getting the right amount. |

Vitamin E should be given if you give any type of fish oil including grizzly salmon oil. WHC - FISH OIL AND DOGS "Extra vitamin E is needed when giving fish oil on a regular basis as fish oil supplemented for many months can lower vitamin E levels..." |
Due to Mimi's allergies my vet recommended one capsule of fish oil a day. I do not free feed my babies so I just pop the capsule and squeeze it in her food. I use to poke a hole in the capsule and just squeeze it in her mouth. I don't know if this makes a difference but my vet did mention to me that the fish oil pills should be made from cold water fish or fresh water fish...one of the two. I buy the ones from walmart and if you read the information panel it will say what its made from. I will double check when I get home what the bottle says. |

Advantage every 3 weeks The V3 everyday. NuSalt shampoo Relief Conditioner. Mandy went from a sparce thin coat to being beautiful and full with a coat that hit the ground! |
I like Eicosaderm from Vetamerica because it has fish oil AND the Vitamin E (which you need) together already. :) |

I was giving Abby and Daisy fish oil and Vit E, but recently switched to Flax Seed Oil on thier food in the mornings. They really seem to like thier kibble better with some kind of oil on it. Abby has a beautiful full thick coat that grows like a weed. Daisy's is getting better and better :) |
