Arthogen do any of you guys use Arthogen for Dogs? i went to the vet for Baron's check-up today and when she checked his legs, she said it felt a little crumbly and tweaky. i remembered when he was little (couple months old. now he's a little over 2 yrs old.) he attempted to jump down our sofa for the 1st time and hurt his right leg a little. after that scary screech, he limped for about a minute or so and then was normal again. i called my vet and she said it would probably be ok. so during the check-up that followed that accident, which was maybe one or two months later, the vet checked it and said it was fine. but now she said the right leg felt a little tweaky and recommended Arthogen. does anyone else use Arthogen? and is this a minor problem with Baron? or is she just giving me this supplement to avoid arthritis? thanks for reading! :) |
Hmm, I guess I'm wondering what she meant by 'crumbly and tweaky' - I mean? Does she mean pre-arthritic or does she mean luxating patella or does she mean tendinitis or bursitis or? Lately, I've learned (from literature posted by EllieMay) that Cosequin is really the only joint supplement that has studies to back up claims of joint improvement in dogs - so that's what I'm using now for Wylie's LP. :) |
hmm.. im not sure what it is. the vet said if it continues after the supplements, i can try x-rays to find out the specific problem. :confused: |
I think unless Baron is a tiny puppy, the vet should be able to grade the knees if it is luxating patella by feeling them. It isn't always accurate but xrays aren't 100% accurate either for grading this. It really depends on how severe the symptoms are. The terms your vet used are really so unmedical that I don't knwo what to think.:) If it is arthritis, joint supplements could help. If the knees are really "crumbly", I think I'd be doing an xray immediately. Cosequin is the only supplement backed by research so far from what I have seen and heard. Glucosamine is good but certain types are better than others. If I could not use Cosequin, I would consider Glycoflex or SynoviG3. These seem to be highly recommended also. |
