Feeding Raw and still hungry I have switched Toppper to Primal raw and he was doing well with it at first but now he seems to be hungry more often. He has started waking up a couple of hours earlier wanting to eat. I double checked the size and amount and for his weight the site states 2 nuggets a day. Anyone else experience this?? He won't touch fruit or veggies for snacks and he gets plenty of treats! I don't want to starve my baby...okay I know he isn't starving but I don't want him to be hungry. |
TJ is the same way - He is 7lbs and gets 3 nuggets a day, but I have bought some steak chuck and veal chucks and I give him a little of that extra meat with his meals :p |
The best way to check if they're getting enough, really, is body condition - feel their rib cage - make sure it feels appropriate; not too buried and not too prominent. It may also be that he *loves* his new food so much, that he just is excited for it and wants it NOW, Mommy, NOW :)! So, maybe he's not actually hungry - but just excited? My Wylie is that way - super excited about meal time - where Marcel is all patient and easy-breezy. Maybe give a snack before bed time? |
I know he snacks on cat food at night because while I am watching the news I will hear him in the other room crunching!! I just don't want him to get in the habit of waking up really early to eat...momma needs her beauty rest and lots of it!!!! |
[QUOTE=Wylie's Mom;2183491]The best way to check if they're getting enough, really, is body condition - feel their rib cage - make sure it feels appropriate; not too buried and not too prominent. When I first got him he was 1 1/2 years old and you could feel his ribs and backbone when you would pet him. He has put on about 2 pounds since I have had him and seems to be appropriate...not too large or too small. Do you think it could be that he is just spoiled and knows momma will give in? |

Good for you for bringing him to such great health! I'd guess he might just be excited about eating, like my Wylie - instead of easy-breezy, like my Marcel. And, like you said - spoiled stinky. As long as his weight is appropriate, it sounds like you're feeding what he needs. What about more chewy things to keep him busy? |
Mine are all on NV raw and I noticed the same thing!! The vet said that they are also not getting all the fillers in the food like the kibble. The vet said maybe I should feed them breakfast and dinner and split the daily amount. It is hard for me to feed breakfast because of my work schedule so we just give some treats in the morning and it has worked. |
