Alfie has the fleas :((( I haven't even had him for 2 weeks, but Alfie has the fleas. I'm so bummed. I feel horrible for him. I've done the whole flea bath and Frontline. I've also, swept, vacuumed, sprayed the backyard, sprayed the upholstery and powdered the carpet. I'm doing all the laundry right now. ugh. I pretty much have him quarantined in his crate (washed that too) right now unless he has to go potty. I feel awful for keeping him in there. He has been crying so much as he's usually chilling with me. How long will it take for the Frontline to take effect? I plan on putting it on him every month from now on. Do I need to keep him in his crate until then? I don't want to keep him there, but I don't want the fleas to spread or get worse. I apologize in advance if I sound crazy. I've never had to deal with this before. It really sucks and I would love some direction. Thank you everyone in advance!! I reallllly appreciate your help! |
I'd let him out of the crate - it's really not going to help all that much keeping him confined - There's a pill called CAPSTAR you can get with no prescription at Pet Meds.com and it will kill BITING fleas right away - it only last 24 hours so you need to do it every few days if you see bites on him. Just keep all his bedding washed and do what you're already doing and hopefully your house won't have a problem. |
I would also recommend taking a feces sample into the vet to get tested, dogs can get tapeworms from fleas. |
I'll probably get a fecal sample. Should I do that now or wait until I get a handle on these stupid fleas lol I am looking up Capstar and I will order some of that. The Frontline Plus takes a couple days to take affect or is it 24 hours? I saw some flea poo on one of his feet and he was going crazy scratching today. UGH. Will this stuff ever end?!!! |
Capstar is amazingly fast, so be careful where you have the dog when you give it to him cause fleas start walking off (actually stagering) within the first couple hours. We found it out the hard way, gave it to our dog then he slept on our bed, and the fleas were all over. Yikes. And, yes, do check for tapeworms in case dog ingests fleas; though I don't know how long it takes. Many people have recommended bathing dog with Dawn dishwashing soap that makes the fleas run off, but I haven't tried that. Of course, don't shampoo dog within a few days after applying Frontline. I haven't had good luck with any of the spot treatments (Frontline, Advantage, K9 Advantix), but other people do. Flea Buster powder for carpet really helped us a couple years ago, and we haven't had a problems since. Good luck. |
I have heard that fleas can live in the vacuum- so clean it out!!( In the bags, I guess) |
My vacuum doesn't have bags, so I've just been emptying it out everytime. I found a flea in the bathroom last night wth?!! I really hate bugs, and this flea stuff is only making my fear worse. My roommate was picking the fleas off Alfie bc she's immune after having a dog and cat. I'm new to this ballgame, and it's going to take me a while to warm up to the idea. It's disgustinggggg. I'm going to go to the vets to get a fecal sample tube today. I should be getting the Capstar in a couple of days. Thank you all so much for your wonderful advice!! |
Interesting! I didn't know about this pill! I'm going to check it out! Quote:

Borax Google Borax...You cant use it on the dog but it WILL kill the fleas in your carpets....BTW by the time you notice fleas on your furbutt they are already in your carpets...:eek::eek: You go to the laundry isle and get some Borax....sprinkle it all over your carpets (like carpet freshener) MAKE sure you get it under furniture too...baby fleas hide in the dark under stuff....So make SURE -- everywhere. leave it for a couple of hours. Vacuum and you will get rid of biting fleas-baby fleas-and eggs....:D:D:D I use it once a month and we have NO fleas for about $3 a month!!!!:thumbup: Check it out! |
Please be careful if you consider a flea collar read this first: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ml#post2184553 |
My baby had fleas and the I took her to get a flea dip and I put the flea meds on her and I never seen another flea that day on her. I wouldn't do a flea collar I just read on this site a dog got real sick from a flea coller. |
I haven't seen a flea on him since that first day. I treated him with another flea bath and we fogged the apartment. We're still vacuuming. I need to get another one though, as mine sucks when it comes to picking up pet hair (the other dog is a pomeranian which means we have an overload of it ugh). I can imagine that it's not going through the carpet fibers as it should be bc of that. I gave him some Capstar about half an hour ago. I've yet to see a flea fall off of him. Keeping my fingers crossed. |
me too! you are NOT alone. I just found fleas on my Ollie a few hours ago. :( Bathed him, frontlined him, vacuumed and sprayed the carpets... I hate fleas. I def. feel your pain!!! |
I\'ve only seen a couple of fleas fall off Alfie since I put the Capstar on. I hope I don\'t wake up tomorrow with his crate covered in dead fleas. Eww. Disgusting lol. I really hate bugs. I freaked out seeing just those couple of dead fleas ick. When I saw those dead fleas fall off, I washed the sheets and his travel carrier immediately. Gross. I just want to be done with them already. I\'m sorry that you and your doggy are dealing with it too, bizz :(. Hopefully they will leave soon and not come back. They are such a pain. |
Keep it up = a Dead flea is a GOOD flea |
