Red Yeast tear stains I didn't know whether to post this here or in the brothers and sisters thread. My shih/poo, Oliver, has a slight bit of entropion. His eyes water a lot. He has brownish red tear stains. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions other than angel eyes? Is there any ointment anyone can suggest? Or should I just try the angel eyes? I don't want him to have eye damage in the future because I let something go that should've been treated. Any suggestions? |
Check the ingredients of his food. Beets can cause red tear stains. I didn't have a problem with red tear stains....just tears in general with Reese. His eyes cleared up greatly when I switched him over to Wellness. You can have his eyelids surgically repaired. |
Yes they are on Holistic Select Duck Meal and Oatmeal and it does have dried beet root in it. It's such a good food, but I guess I'm gonna have to change. The vet didn't feel the entropion was severe enough for surgery. So everyone seems to think wellness is a good food, maybe I'll try that. |
Okay, I think I'm gonna start switching them over to wellness and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, I'll probably try the angel eyes. |

Bentley has had problems with excessive reddish-brown guck in his eyes. I've switched his food once already and right now he's on Wellness Super 5 Mix Complete Health. I'm hoping it'll help! |
I checked the bag of the food they are currently on and dried beet root/pulp is the 6th ingredient. So I bought some Wellness Simple Solution Duck and Rice today. I'll start mixing it in and hope it helps! |
