Car sick. Need a quick answer! Hi all. My yorkie, Buddy, traveled with us to the Lake this weened and not surprisingly he got very car sick going and coming. We came back today (left at 1pm got home at 3:30pm) and he got sick several times during the drive. He *pardon my terms* puked a LOT - nearly 5 times and by the last time he didn't have anything left. Well its almost 7 now and when we got home he slept a lot. Now hes walking around and chewing a toy a little but I was wondering if theres anything I can give him to calm his stomach down or make him feel better since he threw up so much today? Thanks for the help! |

Awww Im sorry that Buddy isnt feeling well. When my crew throws up a lot, my vet says no solid food, and g ive them a bit of cottage cheese or boiled chicken. I hope he feels better. |
I would give him some nutracal or sugar syrup. And also hydrate him. Chances are he is dehydrated and he glycemic level is too low right now. That is What would do for my Dog, but I can call my vet at any time...are you able to do that?? ALso, my dog ALWAYS got sick in the care until I got him a doggy booster seat and he could see out the windows. it cured him. I will HIm well!!! |
I would give him a soda crackers or some bread - this helps get him energy immediately and will help absorb nauseous juices. If he keeps that down, give a bit more - wait a bit, then feed him his food later so he doesn't get a really empty tummy overnight. Also, dogs can be given Pepto - so you could also give 1/2 tsp of that now or with the food. You could also give it next time you travel. :) Childrens liquid benadryl and/or ginger is also good for travel. |
I agree, when Otis's belly acts upset, I always give him bread. For some reason the bread has always, always, settled his stomach. Sorry your boy isn't feeling well. If he's not drinking, you may want to soak the bread in water. Good Luck, hope he feels better soon!! |
Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it. I'm going to try using ginger on our next trip. He seems to be doing a lot better, was outside eariler playing. Now hes sleeping again. Thanks again! |
My mom's labrador used to have the same problem. When we knew we were going to have to take her, we would not feed her solid food until after we got home. We fed her before bed the night before and the next night. |
I wanted to add, my Oliver gets sick on long rides if he's in the back seat. The last trip was 30 minutes and I held him in the front with the air conditioning blowing on him and he did just fine (although it's not the safest) |
Where is he during the car trip? Buddy gets car sick if he is not in his puppy seat, he needs to look out the window to be ok. Also make sure you don't feed him right before you head out, bive him time to digest anything he has eaten before he gets in the car. |
I would make sure that he can see out. Hot Rod would get sick if he was in a carrier, but once I got the snoozer seat, he was fine. Also, try giving 1/2 a ginger snap cookie a little bit before the car ride. Good luck. |
