Most aggression is based in fear, not dominance. There is a very good chance you either have a dog who is fearful of something and you must try to figure out what. There are tons of good books out there and it's best to find a good trainer to work with. Loki is reactive to big dogs and loud noises - he will start freak out barking. Once you identify the problem there are lots of things you can do to work with your dog. The other possibility is an unseen medical issue. Loki would snap at us out of the blue when we would reach to pick him up, but he wasn't anti social as he would happily come and lie near us. We worked with him through behavioral methods like giving treats when we picked him up, or asking him to stand up first, which worked OK but we found out the underlying cause was a medical condition (diabetes insipidus) which was causing him pain as his bladder was constantly full. Would you want someone grabbing you around the waist with a full bladder? Now that he is on medication he is fine. :D |
Rage and the Parrot Our guy goes into a frenzy when the parrot, kept in her cage and separated by a gate, flaps her wings and makes certain noises when she walks on her dishes. He barks and growls and will even snap at me if I try to stop him. I use the spray bottle and tell him "no." Sometimes he will grab a toy and chew it to self-soothe. Does this fit the profile? :aimeeyork |

OMG! My 5-month little girl also does that! She even knows what "NO!" means but prefers to ignore or go against my command. When she wants to play, she plays hard. She is like a mad dog when playing with her chew toys, growling, furiously shaking her head and running around. She loves to bite my fingers/hand even when I repremand her. She has bitten my fingers several times already, some with a little bleeding or peeling of skin. I thought it was just their playful behavior. Is it an aggression issue? It's even very difficult to give her a bath. She hates it! She would try hard to escape. When I wipe her feet with tissue paper she gets mad and bite the tissue paper and my hand. I'm now worried if I could ever cut her nails and brush her teeth :( It seems hopeless. However, when she\'s tired or sleepy, she loves cuddling on my lap. She\'s an angel in those times. |
