Phoenix is constipated? ( a lot) Hi, I love this place! I have a problem with my little eight month old, Phoenix. He eats RoyalCanin specially made for Yorkshire Terriers, it is supposed to be super for their coat, teeth, energy level and also digests better for "more compact stools". Boy, that is true, his little poops are tiny and dry and he even yelps sometimes when he tries to go which sometimes takes him a while, poor baby. I know he needs more hydration, but he doesn't care for water very much. Will it help to add Karo syrup to his water? Suggestions from you experienced parents, please! Phoenix and I thank you in advance! |
Add a teaspoon of sugar to his water. Does he get any canned food because it has water in it. If not thats another way to get water down him. He needs water |
Hi and WELCOME!!! :D Personally, I would change his food to a better quality food - and change slowly. This food is definitely *not* agreeing w/ his little body, and his body is trying to tell you that. Royal Canin has quite a few allergens in it also, so I'd avoid those. I too would suggest adding some canned food to the diet - both for superior meat quality and added moisture. Brands I like are: Natures Variety Instinct, Wellness, Canidae. |
Thanks guys! Royal Canin is Very PROUD of their food, it was just over $30 with s&h for TEN POUNDS!!!! I will start adding a bit of sugar to his water and add some canned Science diet. This the sixth food I've tried with him, he's just not an eater. |
He needs to come off the RC entirely if this is happening. Science Diet is no better than RC really. How about trying something like Canidae or Evangers canned? |

Definitely start adding water to the RC right away. This will help get fluid in him right away. My holistic vet does not believe in giving dry food without water on it - it makes a nice gravy too for them. If you are having trouble finding a good food he will eat - why don't you email some companies and ask for samples - here's a great list to go off of http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html |
