Dog Bones :idontknow Who allows their baby/babies :aimeeyork to chew bones? I'd like to let mine, but am afraid to, becuase of comments I've heard in the past. Is rawhide not safe, are Nylabones the only "good" types of bones to give, etc.? I see so many different choices in the stores, that I am confused. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! :coffee_n_ |
Neither rawhide OR nylabones are safe! Mainly because they are not digestible so if your dog were ever to bite a piece off and swallow it, he/she might have a tough time passing it and it might cause an obstruction. The only chews mine get are bully sticks (fully digestible) and either raw meaty bones or sterilized bone. |
We just go Leah back from the vet last week from chewing on a rawhide stick. She was vomiting like crazy....the only thing we did different was the chew stick. She had to take medicine to help settle her stomach and it still took 2 days for her to start feeling better. The vet says NEVER give them rawhide as they just cant digest it. She suggested Denta Bones if they need to chew. Good luck! |
Thanks!! Thanks so much for replying! I will heed your advice for sure - I would feel terrible if they had problems from me giving them those bones (other than what was suggested by you guys)!!! Thanks again! |
My baby Sadie was given a dingo (rawhide) bone by a friend and a piece of it got hung in her throat and she could not breathe...so off to the vet we went!! He got it out and she was just fine, but he said that she should NEVER have another one of any kind because they do not digest and because she is so small, it is very easy to get something lodged in her itty bitty throat. So NO more of those things for Sadie!!! |

I just hate that these stores have so many of these things that dogs don't need to be eating. I wonder if they have even been told how bad it is for animals? We have a large dog also and he has had a very sensative stomach from the beginning. He had surgery and he gets nothing. I only give him training treats and a few baked dog biscuits. So the yorkies get about the same. We don't need the added problems. No matter what size of dog you have. We also do give jerky on occasions and they really like that. But that is dried meat so its digestable. |
Thanks Carol for the link to the picture of the "stick" - I appreciate it! Have a good night! |
