Spay questions. I am curious about getting my lil izzy spayed. The spay cost is 166.00 The anesthesia/spay is 96.00 Hospital care 12.00 Medical Waste 2.00 Pre blood test 25.00 Pain injection 17.00 Pain meds 14.60 They uses Cadimine Valium And Icalflorine gas... Im not sure about these and was wondering if anyone had any info on them if these are the best ones. Also After the age of six months can you still spay cause she is almost 7 months. Thanks... |
You can spay anytime if the animal can handle anesthesia. Isoflurane gas is great. Ketamine and valium seem to be very common but I'm not sure if they are best. I don't know if there is a best for this but Propofol is supposed to be good. Is an IV placed before surgery? Is it done on a heated surface? That is very cheap for blood work. Is it a full blood panel and cbc or just a cbc? |
spay....procedure I dont know but I will call the vet and ask. Is there any more questions I should ask and any other things I should know about the procedure. They do not keep her overnight. I can bring her home after the surgery. Oh and I want to get some toys that kinda keep her attention so she doesnt get so restless...any ideas? |
I am worried about getting my little baby spayed soon too. How much does Izzy weigh? |
cali was spayed & microchipped on the 18th. she's 6 mths old & weighs 3.1 lbs. sorry, i don't remember what type of pain meds they used, but she was given the gas anesthesia (p-something). we dropped her off @ her doctor's office @ 7:45am. she stayed all day & we were able to take her home anytime after 4pm. she couldn't have breakfast that morning, but could have h2o. we also chose to have her surgery on a friday, so we could be home w/ her during her first couple of days after. she recovered rather quickly in our opinion. real quiet & lazy on saturday, by sunday she was running around chasing her ball & big sister. she got her stitches out 10 days later & never had to wear a cone. she just licked her tummy- we weren't sure if she'd bite @ them. so glad she didn't! couple of other things to give you a heads up on: she had trouble pooping the first day. she cried when she tried. it was also very hard little nuggets. she finally had a good, normal, no cry poop @ 2am sunday! yeah! apparently it was how she reacted to the anesthesia. also we found the best way to pick her up was to her bum sitting in our one hand & her chest/legs in the other. i hope that makes sense! she'd cry out when when picked up the "normal way". she seemed more comfortable when the sitting/lifting action. it's hard having your baby go through a surgery, but we love our girls' vet & knew she was in excellent care. hopefully i didn't babble too much! :) if i can answer any other questions, let me know! good luck! oh! if your little one is 6 mths old, your vet should check her baby teeth & pull any s/he finds necessary. cali didn't lose any of hers! had to have them all pulled! :( they took a before/after picture for us & gave us her teeth! |

glad to share! she had not lost any of them & had 2 sets! she had shark teeth! hee! hee! i don't know how to put a picture in a post, otherwise i'd show ya! ;) |
I would make sure that they have a separate vet tech monitoring her anesthesia. Even if you have to pay extra it is worth it because many bad situations happen when the vet is doing the surgery and monitoring the anesthesia at the same time. My 2 girls under 3 lbs were spayed and did fine with an experienced vet and a vet tech to monitor. Good Luck!! |
There is always a seperate vet tech monitoring the little ones . I had a 2 pounds little girl spayed and she was ok . |
Izzy is 6months almost 7. And she's about 6.5-7 pounds. She hasnt went into heat yet...I dont think. She is acting a little more whiny and stuff though. |
oh...one more question. so ...does it ussually take around two days before pup is back to normal? I was thinking about getting it done on a thursday morning so that I could monitor her friday and saturday. |
hey angel, cali had surgery on a friday. by sunday she was running around after playdoh (the kitty) & playing catch w/ her ball. like people, dogs react different, but it at least gives you an idea. when's her surgery? i just noticed you're in california. what area? |
