Puppy Growth Question From 8 weeks to 14 weeks, Triss was gaining quite fast. She went from 2 lbs even to 3 lbs even in that time. From 14 weeks to 17 weeks she only gained 2 ounces, at 3lbs 2 oz. The vet said she may just be getting to her size, and will probably top out at maybe 4 lbs by the time she is a year old. I was under the impression that she was going to be a 6-7 lb yorkie. But I could be wrong. Her mom was around 6-7 lbs and her dad was probably 4-5. She eats good, gets exercise, is very healthy, and eliminates fine. Does this sound right to you? |
I think they kind of fo through spurts and slower growth times, so I would try not to worry. This sounds normal to me. :) |
Interesting... Yalee- shes 7months & shes 7.5lbs, HUGE! Her mom is 6.5lbs & her dad (which I own) is TINY but pure muscle, 5-5.5lbs.. so I dont know how she got so big, she has more of her moms body- Tall but not sooo long like a silky terrier, shes actually taller than my silky, but thats bc daddy is tall as well- long legs! At least 4 lbs isnt that bad... a little bit on the small side but a nice size Yorkie! :) |
It's so funny how they grow! Krissie was 3.2 lbs when I got her at 12 weeks. She is 17 weeks now and is 3.8 lbs. Her Dad was 3.9 lbs and her mom was 5 and 1/2 lbs. I am looking for her to outgrow both of them. I guess you can't ever tell. It's a roll of the dice. I need advice on this subject myselft, sorry that I can't offer any to you! Peace and Love, |
A close guess is usually doubling her 12 week weight. There is usually a growth spurt in the 6 - 8 months age too. |
