Question about Barclay's Neuter Hi Everyone:) Barclay's doing great since the miserable haircut last Saturday! He thinks he is the most handsome boy!!! I have calmed down too and laugh now when I look at how cute he shaved. . .he looks like a mini Bambi, it's so adorable!! Tomorrow is his big day. "The Neuter" I am so anxious. I have a couple of questions and hope that some of you can provide some insight. 1.) Did you get pain medication. My sister had her Bella spayed on Tuesday and she was up all night crying . . .she wasn't sure if it was pain, if she had to pee or poop or if she was just annoyed by the collar, but needless to say she was up most of the night. She said her vet game her medication but it didn't seem to help. What is the BEST medication for their pain? 2.) My little one is an aggressive chewer. . .I posted here before about him biting through his harnesses and destroying most of his toys:animal36 Even the toys labelled for "aggressive chewers". I know he is going to go mental with the collar on, he can't stand anything around his neck. What I am afraid of is him pulling on the surgical site and opening it. Do any of you have aggressive chewers that went through a neuter? I am taking off Friday to stay home with him and then the weekend, how will he be by Monday? Thank you to all who counselled me through my grooming nightmare. . .as usual everyone here is wonderful and supportive. Wish us luck tomorrow. :animal36:animal36:animal36: |
I hope the neuter went OK. Pain meds are really optional with a male. If he is a chewer a cone is a good idea. He should be good to go by Monday. |
everything will go great with barclay don't even worry about it! i was stressed like crazy thinking about chloe getting spayed but she did good and its as if nothing happened! as far as pain med, my vet gave chloe 4 days worth, but by the 2nd day i really dont think she needed it. chloe had external stitches and i was really scared she would pull at them, so i kept the cone on her for 12 days!! she got used to it but it was really irritating to her the first few days. people suggested onesies, which you can try using, but my vet said he'd prefer her not wear anything and allow the incision to "breathe" and heal. and seeing as barclay is an aggressive biter, he would get to it if he really wanted to, like my vet said. hope all is well! |
I dropped him off at the vet at 8:00AM. Still waiting to hear from them. He was so excited, he thought we were going on an outing:( Thank you for the great suggestions and adivce. . .your positive experiences has eased my mind. I will keep you posted, thanks again:):):) |
