Billy eats his poo! Hi, Does anyone know what I can add to my puppy food so stop Billy eating his poo, I have see a few things on here but cannot remember what was said. Thanks in advance. |
Meat tenderizer or pineapple has been suggested in other threads. YOu can also purchase a product called Deter. Feed a portion of each pill each day. It works for some, not for others. GOod luck! |
Are you feeding him enough food so that he isnt hungry. I Leave food out for my yorkies all the time and never have had tht problem. I just obtained a little female 2 weeks ago and they said she eats her poo well no wonder ,you could feel her backbone and ribs. I started her on dry food Royal Canin and one or 2 packs of Cesar wet dog food a dayand she has stopped . I guess shes not hungry anymore. |
Roxy and TJ eat their poop too! I have tried Forbid, Pineapples, ACCENT and they still eat it most of the time (that is when I don't get to it first). I leave Innova dry out for them all day. When I get home from work it seems untouched. I give them a special Breakfast and Dinner (chopped up Innova, a little bit of boiled chicken, a few little cubes of Natural Balance Lamb/Rice meat roll, missing link in the AM). I feel like I feed them enough. But maybe b/c they don't eat their dry food during the day they go for their poop??? Or they just like it for so reason??? I have no idea! They gobble up their dinner and then do munch of the Innova dry for the rest of the night...I swear they could eat everything plus the kitchen sink and if someone poops, well that's dessert!!! |
Ramsey does the same thing. I'm trying the pineapples right now and I havent seen him sneak any. (poo). I'm hoping this cures him, because it makes him and me sick when he eats it! |
i hate to tell you this but eating their own poop usually means that they have worms. Check with your vet immediately! |
My dog ate his poo when he was little and he didn't have worms. There is a pill you can get called ditter. Also in the Fosters and Smith catalog there was some kind of pill you could order. |
I don't think it necessarily mean they have worms. I have spoken to my Vet about it and their poop has been tested in the past (no worms). My Vet said it is very common for puppies to eat their poop and that there is NO SOLID answer as to why. He told me they should grow out of it but I can try a few things to deter them from eating it when I can't get it before they do. Some things work for some dogs, but again there is NO FOR SURE 'thing' to give to them to make them stop, believe me I wish there was b/c it makes me want to vomit! Eating poop is very common but it isn't best thing for our dogs to be doing so my advice and what I am tring to do (somehow) is find what works for them to STOP! |
eating poo Well thank goodness it isn't worms. Have you tried picking it up as soon as he goes? Or giving him a treat as soon as he's done pooping? If you aren't able to catch him as soon as he goes, I don't know how you are going to stop this behavior. Sorry I wasn't more help. |
