scrathing all the time.... My ella scratches all the time. I know we have a lot of fleas in our apartment but ive been having to put frontline topspot on her about every WEEK AND A HALF! I think thats insane...and a waste of money. What should I do??? |
Did you ask the vet about using Frontline so often? That sounds dangerous because flea medications can be very toxic. Have you tried something for the carpet? |
You have fleas in your home? If you do you need to take care of that issue. If you don't you are going to continue to have this problem. You say you're putting frontline on her every week:eek: That should only be applied once a month. Too much can be toxic to them. |

:aimeeyorkI used to work at an apartment complex and this can be a huge problem depending on how many units there are and which floor level you live on. If I were you I would contact my neighbors about this and see if they are also having a problem with fleas and if so then you should all treat your apts. simultaneously! Otherwise they will just go back and forth between apts. You need to use foggers in your apts. and leave for about 3 days. When you come back you need to clean your floors before you let your dog back in so it doesnt get toxic by walking on chemical residue. Make SURE you follow the directions carefully on the foggers as they can be VERY dangerous to pets if you dont. Also bath the dog before returning to make sure it doesnt bring any fleas back in. Hope this helps and maybe you should find a natural remedy to use between MONTHLY frontline. I would NEVER use frontline more than once a month on a yorkie!:animal-pa |
sorry about all the confusion...it's not flEAS in our home, it's fleas outside in the nasty weed-filled "grass" outside our apartments. All the dogs in the neighborhood also have flea problems. She seems to just be scrathing all the time...probably gets re-infested every time she goes out to pee. The grass is gross...when you walk across it bugs just fly away... |
Talk to your landlord about the problem and see if he will treat the grass.. If not.. I would seriously think about moving. If your baby is getting reinfected every time he goes out.. he is bringing them back into the apartment..... Not a good thing. If you can't move.. maybe think about using potty pads inside. But you will need to treat your apartment like it was suggested above.. if you want your pet free of fleas. |
I forgot.. but someone also wrote about bathing your dog in dawn dish soap.. that kills the fleas.. (After you treat the apartment.) |
Frontline should not be used more often than once a month. Flea meds are completely full of chemicals/toxins...Yes, they kill the fleas, but they are also toxins that your baby's body is taking in. I'm so sorry that you're in this situation. I would definitely ask the landlord to get rid of the fleas outside. She's probably bringing them in with her when she goes out, so you probably need to treat your home for fleas. You can buy borax and sprinkle it all over your carpets. Leave it down for a couple of hours and vacuum it up. *Make sure your dog is not in the home during that time. Ingesting borax is dangerous.* Anyway, it helps get rid of any fleas/eggs that might be in your home. |

There is something that you can put on the grass to kills fleas and ticks. My Parents have a big back yard and there little Heidi (who went over rainbow bridge last month) was constantly getting ticks on her. After they treated their lawn she didn't get them anymore. You have to put it on before it rains. I wouldn't let your furbaby out until after it rains so it will sink into the ground. Sadie has only had 3 fleas on her since I got her (she is 3 yrs old) and Lillie only had 1 (she is 2 yrs old). As everyone has already told you, putting any kind of flea repellent on your dog that often can be very dangerous. It is poison! I don't use flea repellents on the girls. They don't get fleas. Some, a while ago, had posted a natural flea repellent. It's made out of all different kinds of oils. If you need to keep applying maybe you should search for it and try that. Good Luck! Fleas are very difficult....NO matter how bad you want them gone. The borax thing works GREAT. |
Perhaps it's not fleas at all - maybe it's allergies... Deegan was scratching alot last year - particularily at his paws... it was allergies all right. After seeing the vet and getting a fairly inexpensive ointment and applying it for few days he was much better. |
