Izzy is on Petzlife gel and spray and we just use a piece of gauze (you can get at any drugstore) and wrap that around your finger and use. The toothbrushes, rubber fingers did not work on Izzy - her mouth was too small for all that stuff and she never minded me putting my finger in her mouth so this works out great for us. :D |

Gives them fresh breath too! LOL |
If you use the cool and clear, do you still have to brush at first or does the plaque come off by itself? my baby is getting older with bad breath and I am wondering if I need to take her into the vet to get her teeth cleaned, however I do not want her put under to have her teeth cleaned. |

Thats why I started to use it as well. I don't want to take my babies in and have them put under. Of course every case is different, if her teeth are bothering her I'd have her checked of course. But this does work! |

Be sure never to use human toothpaste, it contains artificial sweeteners that can cause serious illness in pets. I bought my poultry flavored toothpaste online, but you can find suitable toothpastes at any pet store. Some people recommend cat toothbrushes because the Yorkie's mouth is so small, but I have found that children's toothbrushes purchased at the dollar store work fine. I also use Petzlife tooth gel, that's supposed to soften tartar so you can easily brush it off. Remember that you are suppose to still brush the teeth even if using Petzlife spray or gel. Breny, I checked the ingrediants of Cool & Clear Dental Care. Quote:

It is sold as a dental care. I know from personal experience that it cleared up my sponsors girls teeth so they are sparkly white. I don’t know how it works but it does. I too was skeptical when I first started using it and it took about 6 months to really start seeing the results. I am sure it would have been even more dramatic with brushing to help it along. She didn’t brush their teeth so it took a little longer for their teeth to clear completely of the tartar. After a year of using it, all their teeth are completely clean without doing another thing. If the buildup is really bad or there is other gum disease or decayed teeth, this will not fix those and is not meant to replace proper tooth and gum care. It does keep their mouth fresh and clean which is probably why it prevents more buildup :):):) Quote:

thanks for the info!:) |
so your sayin all i have 2 do is put this in my puupies water without brushin and her teeth will be white |
I would recommend Cain and Able. They have an all natural vanilla flavored dog toothpaste that is safe for your dog. Try getting your dog used to your finger in your mouth before you try brushing their teeth. |

I use a very soft baby's toothbrush on Skipper's teeth. I dip the brush into garlic salt and water and gently brush his teeth. I've tried it twice and so far so good. |

I used to use a vanilla flavored toothpaste from the pet store but I didn't think it was really working, and none of the ingredients listed in it seemed like effective plaque removers. Now i just mix a little bit of baking soda and water and add a drop of peppermint oil (optional but my dog likes this better)! I use a soft children's toothbrush for her side teeth, but i don't really stick my finger in her mouth; she usually keeps her mouth closed and from one side i gently pull her mouth (kind of like she's smiling) with the thumb of one hand, revealing her teeth, and brush with the other hand. She hates me brushing the front teeth but my vet really stressed the importance of this, so I do it as best I can with either a rubber finger brush or with a q-tip. good luck! |

I got A toothbrush kit from my vet. It had A little finger brush too, and flavored tooth paste just for dogs. Something like this, I would reccomend getting from your Vet office. |
