I have a question.. when feeding samples of kibble.. is it ok to feed one, one day.. and another the next? or is this too much on their little tummies? (they are all premium kibble.. fyi) ;) thanks so much, in advance!! :):)

I wouldn't do it. I've always switched foods very gradually.

i know that's how we have done it also.. but when trying out a new food.. i only have like a sample, maybe 2 of each?! :(
(i mix them with her current food.. but because it is new and exciting, she picks out the new kibble and eats that.. haha. there is a whole area of her current food picked out of the bowl on the ground.. hahahaha.):rolleyes: :p silly girl!

in my opinion.. if you are changing from premium kibble to premium kibble you are fine... i've done it with Layla and she's had no problem.. its when you go from low quality (ie Eukanuba) to high quality (Solid Gold) is when you have the problems. But her belly will tell you if it isn't going well...

gotchya.. that makes sense! i was thinkin' there would be a little change in her poop.. but didnt want it to be too extreme for her.. im going to try another.. and we will see how it goes! thanks Marcy! ;)

I really agree with this. I mean really, dogs should be able to handle variety - and it's actually good for them. What can cause problems though, is (similar to what Marci said) when the body detoxes from moving into a superior diet.

It's sort of like when a human has been on a junky diet, then decides to "cut out all the crap" for awhile - and wow - the body can reeeaaaalllly go through a nasty detox bc of it (even get sick). It's kind of interesting, really.

That said, there are some dogs who are sensitive no matter what, I suppose. But if your dogs have been eating pretty premium stuff, you're probably okay. I can tell you anecdotally that bc my guys eat premium stuff (raw now, homecooking before that, premium kibble before that) - they can pretty much eat anything now and their bodies are fine. [they sneak kibble when we vacation w/ others, and even that is no problem for them] :)

i think it also depends on the dog. if your dog is used to eating one food their whole life then their systems are gonna get all screwed up when you suddenly switch a lot. i've never had a problem switching foods because i also feed different things. if your dog is used to this then you shouldn't have a problem either.

I always try them out as a treat first to see if she is even interested in it...if she shows no interest, then no point to trying to gradually add it to her normal food for variety...

:thumbup: yeah.. it makes sense.. ;) we have fed premium kibble since we got Avery and try and change it up every now and then. everything has been going well.. so far so good-:thumbup:

ALSO.. her poop has been normal(same as it always is.. color, smell, etc) but there seems to be more of it at once?! is that because she may be eating more food(because it's new and exciting?!:confused:) i don't know.. im not worried about it-nothing is bad about it, like i said before-just more of it! ;)

yeah.. i can see what you mean! ;) we try and change Avie's food every now and then.. (& we have started giving her some home cooked stuff.. just occasionally) i was also thinking about adding some premium canned food, every now & then, as well. everything seems to be going well.. so that's good! thanks so much for the response!! :):)

i've just been trying out samples we have. every day to every couple days.. we have been adding the samples to her current food. so far so good! :thumbup: ;) :)

she really liked the wellness we tried.. but im kinda weary of it-since they started selling it at petco!? :confused: anyone take their baby off it for this reason?!

Could be bc she's eating more, or that she's absorbing less - is any of the food full of a little more "fillers" that she might just be passing through her system? But, definitely could be just that she's eating a bunch bc of all the new tastes. :)

I would feed the same brand several days in a row. You have to allow time for their system to adjust, otherwise, how will you know which one their bodies are reacting to?

hmm.. not sure.. ill check them out again.. ;) (the amount of her poop today, was more like it usually is with her current food! i have had her on eagle pack for the past few days.. and before that it was wellness for a couple days (like i said before, she really liked it alot.. so im thinking it's because she ate more of it?!) ill compare the ingredients again.. thanks!! :)
