Nutrical question Daisy is almost 16 weeks, 2.4lbs. She is not eating much at all. A bite, and I mean like one kibble, here and there. I guess I will have to give her a dose of nutrical rather than 'hand feed' her or try more kinds of food. I am going to trust all your wisdom here that she will not starve and will start to eat. Question is what IS a does of Nutrical?? And how often should I give it to her when she is not eating at all? Day one of tough love!!! :( |
A lot of folks think I am crazy, but here goes..... I hand feed my Yorkies. Once a day I hand each one a kibble at a time until they are satisfied. I have more than one and I want to know EXACTLY how much each one is eating so there is no question and I know when one is "off their feed" before it becomes an issue. It takes only a few minutes, it is great bonding time and I don't have a question about who is eating what. If your baby is not eating, I would give a little nutrical for peace of mind. Be sure not to give so much that you will hinder her appetite, but a little nutriton "insurance" never hurts. |

I am sorry you are still having eating problems. Just squirt a little bit out of the nutrical tube and have her lick it off. Give it 2 to 3 times a day. |
Just squirt a little off the tube and let her lick it....wish I could! She won't even lick it, I have to put it on the roof of her mouth to get it in her! Hand feeding is I'm sure an option.....except, in Oct we are going to be gone for 10 days to Hawaii. She will be with either my son or a friend and I will not leave them with a dog that needs to be handfed. Is a half inch squirt of nutrical twice a day enough? |
If the not eating keeps up you might wanna talk to your vet about it. My vet had a prescription food that was high in calories that he gave Chachi when he was little and not eating. It was called prescription P/d. |
I did mention it to the vet. He said, put the food down you want her to eat, leave it for 20 minutes. If she hasn't eaten it, pick it up and do that three times a day. Period. No leaving food out for her at all! He's a good vet, but a tough old bird! LOL |
Yeah that is enough nutrical> I gave it 3 times a day though. But I really think you should talk to your vet so he can give a special food. My vet had one that he said was like pudding to a dog. It was a prescription food also. |
Will she eat other things? (not that I'm telling you to give her scraps, because I'm not. I was just curious if its just the dog food that she doesn't like.) If she will eat other stuff, like snacks, then, why don't you do something with her food? Try grinding it in a food processor. Add some water or chicken broth.. I grind the puppies food and add water then warm it up, they love it that way.. |
i just put a little on my finger, like a dime size and maisy licks it right off..she LOVES it! we don;t give it to her much when shes eating alot, but the first few days we brought her home and when she went to the vet we gave it to her. |
I've never had a puppy that didn't eat so I'm not much help but our breeder told us to give the pup a finger tip of the nutrical about every 4-5 hours or until stable. Our puppy and other 1 year old Yorkie eat Nutro Natural Choice puppy food and they love it. Maybe you could try a little sample. Good Luck. |
She won't eat table scraps at all. Doesn't seem to be interested in much of anything. I thought that the ground turkey was gonna be good to mix with the dry food. The first day I gave it to her she woofed it down. Now she won't touch it. I have never had a dog that seemed to like something one day and the next day won't even go near it. The only thing she seems to like is the little sauce cubes that I mix with my big dogs food that makes a kinda gravy on it. I'm going to go get some Nutro Natural Choice and see if she'll eat that. |

Johnny Handsome's breeder told us once when the mother's wouldn't eat after having pups, she would get Kentucky Fried Chicken and take the skin off and cut in small pieces. While nursing they loved whipped cream from a squirt can!! I would never think of giving my gal fried chicken (lots of other chicken) but with the skin off and in the same desperate situation it's good to know there is something they will eat no matter what. oh my. this pup is sounding more and more like my little shelby. Have you tried the Natural Balance roll? It looks like salami. Petco carries it (sometimes they have 99 cent samples). you can chop up a slice and give it as treats or use it for her food. It got Shelby interested in eating. then I moved on to finding a dry food she would eat...which led me to the Nutro Lamb and rice puppy. (kind of big kibbles but they aren't as hard as some) I am sure you have read some of us play games with our dogs to get them started on food. Just roll a few pieces across the floor. It might help.
