Liver Shunt??? At what age would a pup start showing signs of liver shunt? I have had my new baby 6 days now and she seems normal and well playing, biting, running, barking and getting just worn out from the excitement of a new house. I was just wondering if she had it when she would start exhibiting signs of it. Everything that I have read says that they should be tested at around 6 months of age which I will do but I want her to have the best life ever so if something is wrong we can correct it or do our best to make her life most comfortable. |
I would test after six months if your pup is not showing symptoms. It could do more harm than good to test a small pup at too young an age if no symptoms are present. |
It's usually discovered at a young age although some dogs show no symptoms until they older. Usually it's discovered in puppies because they are showing symptoms. Such as being disoriented, poor growth, head pressing, circling, seizures, or lethagic after eating. |
I would test at six months as well..If she shows any symptoms like pickiness, not feeling well after eating, lethargy, dark urine, head pressing, etc. then I would test earlier. |
