Pro-Pectalin? Our guy has had diarrhea for a week now. We did change his food last week and we think that's why it happened. The vest tested for parasites and giardia, and they came up negative. He has been on Pro-pectalin for two days now and there is no improvement in his diarrhea. How long does it usually take? Should we be doing anything else?:( |
It's not at all uncommon for dogs to experience digestive upset like this when they are eating a new food. (A good reason to swap food gradually.) It can cause an increase in bacteria found naturally in the stomach and intestine, resulting in the diarreah you are seeing with him, even sometimes bloody stools as well. I've used Pro-Pectalin before when mine had similar issues, more than once. If I recall correctly, it did take a day or so for it to kick in and do what it was supposed to. Until he gets over his tummy issues, feed him a very bland diet of boiled chicken and rice and just hang in there. He should be good as new in a week or so. Just hang in there and smother him with kisses in the meantime. :) |
so we should not give him his regular food until it goes away? Our vet told us to feed him normally. |

When his symptoms have cleared, I would feed him the older food he was accustomed to eating and then gradually swap him over to something different. How is he this morning? Any better? |
today he is the same. If i just feed him rice or something like that now, won't it just go back to diarrhea when we switch the foods again? I did it gradually before. |

It was Wellness. We stopped that and have no been trying to switch him gradually to EVO |
I have an 11 year old pom who would only eat Cesar's. Everytime I tried to switch her to a better dog food she would get terrible diahrrea. So I would go back to the cesars. Just in the last 2 months I switched her to California Natural like the rest are eating. But I had her on stomach meds for her colitis so she didn't get sick. Hope he gets over it soon. |
Hmmm...Wellness isn't one of the ones I've heard complaints about. Why did you swap him? Specifically, what aspect were you trying to change (more of x? less of x?) by switching to Evo...maybe there is another brand out there that you could get the same from that someone could suggest... Yes, I would suspect the same issues would happen again.:( Like I said, maybe there is just something in Evo that doesn't agree with him. Also, I would think the ProPec would be taking effect by now...what dosage is he getting? Should be 1cc...? |
It was the wellness that started the diarrhea. He is getting 1/4 of a pill 3 times a day. He would not eat wellness after two days. so we went to evo, he lovse that |

Not sure how old your little one is...it is possible that he is loosing his baby teeth right now and growing his adult ones? I know that can often cause these problems. Plus, if his mouth is sore, that may be why he is being a picky eater right now. |
Any changes with the little one? |
