How Much Does It Cost For Spaying? I will be bringing Lily in to be spayed. I decided that she has too tiny of pups and want to have it done. She has had two litters and the tiny one's in both litters did not make it. (less than 2oz). It was too traumatic for me to lose them too. So if anyone has had their female spayed could you tell me how much it cost? Also, do they have to put them out for the procedure? Will I have to leave her there for a few hours? Any info at all on this I would appreciate. Thanks! |
I paid $345 for Autumn but that also included 10 teeth being pulled and all of her meds. |
My bill came to 180, but she also had 4 teeth pulled and rabies shot plus meds, her spaying cost 140. |
I was also gonna tell you that they knock them out, usually they spend the nite, my pup was the 1st one done that day and they let me bring her home that evening, thought she would do better home then left there, confined her in her playpen for a few days, she slept the 1st nite, by day 3 she was back to her sweet self and 10 days later went to get her stitches out. |
It was a little over $300.00. |
I went to a clinic and they only charged me 85 dollars and I could pick him up that evening. |
My Vet. charged me $150.00 for Razael. Droped her off at 9am and picked her up at 5 pm. |
Chloe's was 350.00 but they also pulled some teeth and they did give her general anesthesia and she spent the night. It also included the meds for the week. |
I would expect to pay anywhere from $100-$350 depending on the vet and their procedures. Make sure they do pre-op bloodwork before her spay. A spay is the same as an ovariohysterectomy...an invasive procedure. They have to fully anaesthetise a dog to do this, and they should send her home on pain meds as well. She'll also need to be kept still so that she can rest and heal for a LEAST a week. |
It varies so much depending on where you live. I think I paid about $400. |
Bella's spay was $395.00, but then everything is expensive in New Jersey. |
Mia was $275 for the spay, 2 teeth pulled, bloodwork, and microchip. |
I just had Dolly spayed on Tuesday. Sad to say she went in heat at 6.5 months old, and I was planning on doing it at 7 months! I had her appt. already! So we ended up doing it while she was in heat. It cost me 408.00 and this included everything plus her microchip. The vet removed her uterus and ovaries. She had it done Tuesday morning, I picked her up Tuesday evening, she came home with 2 pain meds. Metacam and Buprex? She has 10 days worth of metacam, and had 2 days of the buperex. She is 100% back to herself today. |
Should I Wait? Should I wait until after we sell Lily's pup that she just had before I take her in to be spayed? She is still nursing the pup now (24 days) so now is definetly too soon. |

my animal hospital says that when my puppy gets spayed at six months that she has to stay overnight. is this necessary? i trust myself taking care of her more than a vet that i just met. however, i don't want my current vet getting mad at me for doubting his "sage wisdom". btw, this wisdom included >50% corn in food is perfectly healthy (and recommended) as well as that small dogs like yorkies have no more trouble getting potty-trained than other breeds. and yes, i'm switching to a different vet (the one originally recommended to me but whom i wasn't able to secure an appointment with for vaccines). |
Abbey was spayed today and it was 300$ but she also had 5 teeth pulled and she was microchipped. Also, most vets will do pre-op blood work and an IV and these can be optional. I elected to h ave the blood work done and that added about 100$. If she had ONLY done the spay it prob would have been 100$ total. Also, I dropped her off at 9am and didn't get to pick her up til 5pm. The wait was agonizing but it's good for them to be a while after they wake up. Everything varies though depending on the vet. |

I called and asked my vet how much they charge and they told me that it is close to $200 for everything, including the antibiotics. They say that we drop them off first thing in the morning and pick them up at 4:30pm the same day. My husband told me that the SPCA spays/neuters for close to nothing. Has anyone heard that? I left a message on their phone asking the cost and if they give us the antibiotics, etc. The message that they leave says that there is a non refundable $20 deposit that we have to give to make an appointment. Hmmm. I noticed that a lot of people have been having their yorkies teeth pulled. Why? Are they too close together? Maybe their breath wouldn't be as stinky if their teeth were not so close together? |
I think it all depends in the area. I paid 450 for spaying, pulling one tooth, microchip, and meds. Yes, the SPCA or your local humane society is really cheaper. It was going to cost me only 140 to get Lola spayed and microchiped at the humane society but they would not do the tooth extraction nor give me any meds, so I decided to go to my regular vet instead and pay the extra money in order not to have to put lola under anesthetia for the tooth later. In your case if you do not have to do anything else but the spaying, I think the spca could work well. Best of luck with your decision! |
Kiwi was spayed this month. It cost approximately $350 including removing 5 of her baby teeth. She did not have to stay overnight at the vet. She came that same evening and we all gave her lots of TLC! |

While some SPCA clinics are probably great, they need to have a good surgical protocol. Are they using the best anesthesia (Isoflurane or Sevoflurane to maintain and possibly something like Propofol to intubate), doing surgery on a heated surface, offereing pre-op blood work, giving pain meds and maybe antibiotics... Also, some of those clinics use doctors that just graduated and are doing it as sort of an internship. I'm sure most are just fine at it but I would prefer more experience. |
