What do you use on there teeth?? I took a picture of Brownie Playing with Austin & he had his mouth open & there all Yellow & gross I need to start brushing them or something ...What does everyone use? & does it work? |
I use dental wipes I get at petsmart first and wipe their teeth, then I use a toothbrush glove and use enzyme toothpaste and brush their teeth. I do this every day and then I use Petzlife in them 3 times a week. Pixie had terrible gum disease and plaque buildup so I had her teeth cleaned and 5 had tp be pulled and she is only 2 1/2 years old. So I started cleaning their teeth religiously now. |
Brownie is 6 & they don't seem that bad yet i wanna catch it now before it's worse. |
I use Petzlife Gel & Spray every day with brushing, and give CET Hextra chews. You can also get a rinse. |
We use the Cool and Clear Dental Care liquid that goes in their water. Works great without brushing their teeth. Kissy's teeth were covered in plaque last year. I started putting this liquid in her water. At her check up this last July, they were sparkly white. I don't brush or anything. They have minty fresh breath too so those puppy kisses are WONDERFUL!! |
I'm currently using Four Paws Pet Dental Toothpaste for Dogs. It's active ingredient is sodium monofluorophosphate. Is this a good one to be using? |

Here is the link for more information. DentalCare It has a minty smell when you first put it in the water but i don't notice it after a little bit. It doesn't have a taste to the babies. I also used filtered water for them. Only the best for my girls! :D It comes in the 16 oz bottle and will last a long time as you only use a capful per 24 oz of water. I use the jug of water that turns over in a dish and fills up the dish as they drink it down. I use 3 caps in that jug but you will have to measure out how much water is in your dish. Be sure and shake the bottle of Dental Care really well before using to mix it up really nice. I put the dental care in the bottle and then fill it up and that mixes it really good too. We are thrilled to not have to have their teeth cleaned with anesthetic, which is always risky and EXPEN$IVE!! |

should i be thinking about switching to something else? any help with this query would be appreciated. |
I just ordered some of the Cool and Clear Dental Care Liquid i hope this helps clear up Lily's smelly breath!:p |
Could someone tell me where you get the Petzlife and how you use it?? Also, I think they have the stuff you put in the water at Petsmart, I don't know if it's the same brand though. |
I have the Petzlife Gel & Spray on my website if anyone needs it. It makes their mouths smell minty fresh (for a while, at least ) I use the gel as toothpaste, but you can also apply it with a Q-tip or a piece of gauze if that works better for you. I use the spray just as a breath freshener, but it is supposed to work like the gel in reducing tartar. Barkaholics Grooming |
if anyone cares to know, i did some research and found that fluoride can definitely be toxic to dogs, especially small ones, and the only reason that it is put in pet toothpaste is that it is more likely to sell due to uninformed customers (such as myself). pet supply contractors are just like any other capitalists! whatever makes a buck even if some animals die.:thumbdown |
can anyone recommend a dog toothpaste that doesn't have fluoride? i'm more interested in the toothbrush method than an oral gel or pill, etc. |
