My Yorkie (best friend) is ill My yorkie has not been well now for a couple of weeks he started off by coughing yellow flem and he just wants to sleep all the time. He is 12 years old and getting on a bit and we have had him to the vets a couple of times and all they say it is his age. They checked his temperature which was ok and gave him some antibiotics and some kind of pick me up .And told us to come back in 48 hrs. We are just sat here and he is not getting better it is tearing us apart. We noticed he was losing weight a while back on his rear back legs and was told nothing to worry about. The thing is he has a heart murma and they won,t sedate him for an xray or operate because he mite not pull through. We just want some advice of what else we can do. He is my best mate but i don,t want him to suffer but i can,t make the desision to have him put down because i don,t know whats wrong with him. Please someone help me thankyou |
Sorry to hear your guy is feeling down. What you describe doesn't sound life threatening but does need attention. Maybe you should try another vet. Many vets just generally treat symptoms and don't really look at the whole picture. It's sometimes hard to find a truly qualified vet when you really need one. 12 years is old for a Yorkie but is by no means ancient. Yellow phlegm sounds like a respiratory infection. Maybe a different antibiotic would help. Best of luck in getting help for your guy. |
Thankyou for the reply ive made a decision of getting some blood tests and an xray tommorow to know for certain what is wrong but to be honest it does not look good  He seems to be getting worse |
WE took our yorkie ( Rocky ) For blood test,s and we were told he has chronic kidney failure and told there was no way he would survive. We had to make the descision to have him put to sleep the hardest thing ive ever done in my life ,he is at rest now but me and my mum can,t stop crying and in histerics. Life is so cruel. |
I am so sorry for your loss |
