Yorkie scratching constantly- not fleas or known allergies. . . My 1 1/2 yr. old yorkie scratches himself constantly, that it wakes my husband and I up all hours of the morning. He gets ear infections that we treat with a cream. He itches outside of the ear, by his neck, etc. He doesn't have any dry patches (that I can see and we keep his hair short) or scabs. He takes flea/tick meds, and last check-up at the doctor was great. No known allergies. He eats INNOVA small bites dog food and we don't give him table food except for amer. cheese. Any sugestions? My vet said human shampoo and conditioner was ok?? We use Johnson and Johnson. THANKS:animal36 |

Our vet gave us medicated shampoo and conditioner and it clear Hot Rod's dry skin up almost immediately. He was always itching. Another plus is that the conditioner smells really good. |
Welcome!! I have one with allergies and after extensive testing they couldn't come up with a cause. I tried many meds and now have Cali on Atopica and she is finally not scratching much at all. She use to keep me up too scratching. I would see what your vet says and try a medicated shampoo or an oatmeal based one. I use Petsilk oatmeal. I hope you can get him some relief. It is hard on them and us when they are constantly scratching. |
Have they actually cultured whatever is in his ear? They could test for yeast. So the ear infections just keep coming back? What have used to treat it? Have they tried Entederm? That includes Nysatin which would also treat for yeast if it's there. Also, there are certain types of mange which can go undiagnosed for a long time... |
