They need calcium in much higher amounts than people and cottage cheese or yogurt does not contain enough. I use eggshells for calcium. There are other things that should be added as well.
For my healthy maltese, I use Dr. Pitcairn's Healthy Powder Mix which you make yourself. If you do a search, you should be able to find it.
As far as foods, stay away from anything fatty...No turkey/chicken skin, nothing with seasonings, salt, etc. No raisins, grapes, onions. I stay away from pork, processed meats, etc. I also stay away from tomatoes.
Good foods include:
chicken breast, ground turkey, white fish, most vegetables (peeled white potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, squash, zucchini, etc.), oats, pasta(no sauce), rice (brown or white), and a bunch more. |
