Brushing 10 week old's teeth Hi, does anyone have any advice for brushing a 10 week old's teeth? I have heard using a piece of gauze and doggie toothpaste, but is this ok for a 10 week old with baby teeth? And if so, what brand of doggie paste should I use? Thanks in advance! |
I would use the gauze and when he is relaxed just get him use to your finger and gauze in hios mouth. I use an enzyme toothpaste but instead of a brush I buy the disposable glose that has a brush on the finger and thumb. My girls seem to like that better. It is great you are geting him use to it now. |
Brushing Thanks very much! Today I bought some enzyme tooth paste (poultry flavored) and a small finger-brush and full sized doggie toothbrush. I should probably wait until she is completely comfortable with the finger-brush until I try to use the full sized brush. Thanks again! :) |
at 10 weeks they still have all baby teeth. It is not necessary to brush baby teeth; they fall out anyways. Wait for a while until he/she has adult teeth. Our vet told us that at this young age all they need to get used to is your fingers in and near their mouths so just be concerned with that much right now. Our vet also said that once he/she is old enough to have their teeth brushed, only brush the fronts of the teeth. It is not necessary to brush in the back; the dog hates it and it's not necessary. We just obtained this information last night at our vets. Our baby is 5 months old and is still to young to be worried about brushing. We're just going to stick our fingers in his mouth so one day he'll be prepared for it. |
Brushing Ok thanks very much! I was wondering about when they fall out, there's no reason to brush.. :) but I will be gently rubbing to get her used to the feel. But about the baby teeth, when they fall out, is there a possibility of her choking on one?? |
You can brush your dog's teeth?! Mine acts like I'm trying to kill him when I try. I just let the groomer do it. |

Our vet told us last night that we can start brushing his teeth in about 4-5months. So if he's 4.5 months old now... than I guess 8 - 9 months old we cam start and that he'll have all his adult teeth. Our vet told us that yorkies are known to have THE WORST problems with tarter and that you should brush their teeth once a day!! |
I just had my 2 1/2 year old in for dental surgery due to bad gums and teeth. SHe lost 5 teeth. 3 of them back molars. I do not want to go thru that again so I am brushing daily all of my dogs teeth. JMO |

Very imformative thread! This whole time I've been brushing Wall-e's teeth and he's only 4 months old! I forgot that baby teeth fall out anyway. Oh well! At least he'll get used to the routine of brushing his teeth though. |
