Does open dry food go stale? My pup Buddha is currently on Solid Gold Hundchen Flocken for puppies. He really enjoys it. But he turns 1 on July 25th, so I will be moving him to an adult food when he finishes this last bag of Solid Gold. I found a store that sells Canidae all life stages for less than I pay for the Solid Gold if I buy the 40lb bag. But he's only a 13 lb pup...so it will take him forever to finish a bag that big. It's one of those paper bags. Is it ok to leave the bag open to feed him for so long? |
I would put it in a rubbermaid bin. I dont know if it goes stale but mine love their dry food when its freshly opened |
I store our dry Food in a plastic bucket with lid .... came with the dog food at one point .... |
It's best to freeze kibble and only defrost enough for about a week provided you can spare the freezer space. I rarely have enough room so I use a Rubbermaid cereal keeper. |
Some dogs food come in better containers than others, in fact some come with a self-sealing top, and it's important to always remove air before sealing. Rubbermaid containers are good for keeping the air out, but don't use one that is too big or the air that's in the container will make food taste stale. Those zip lock plastic bag work well too, just squeeze the excess air out before zipping for best results. |

I didnt know you could freeze it either! I might try that one day. :) I put Izzy's food in a rubbermaid container when i buy it from the store. I only buy a 5lb bag since I have one and that lasts me about 3 months. I think they do like the food when it is fresh out of the container. |
