What is the deal!! Rambeau has been scratching like crazy at night lately. I thought he might be allergic to my pillows or something. This morning I was scratching him and he was covered in flea dirt! Terrible! How can this be? He just had a flea bath a week ago, he was on advantage which isn't due again until the end of this month but the vet switched him to sentinel instead which he got last week. He is being treated for fleas inside and out how can he have fleas???????? I am FLUSTERED, I am treating him a lot more than I want to anyway and it's not working? Anyone else have this problem? I can't bathe him daily. Melissa and Rambeau (itchy itchy:() |
I am not real familiar with Sentinel (I think the fleas only die when they bite the dog, so you could have plenty of fleas around that have not bit them yet (?) Advantage works great on my girls...flea baths are never necessary. Maybe the fleas got into your house (rugs, etc) and you are having a population explosion? Years ago, a friend of mine was not aware of fleas in the house, but laid out white sheets on the floor...then she saw tem jumping on the sheets!! I guess she had to treat the house then after that. Good luck! |
Ok well, we did a big flea treatment, shaved the cats and treated them, treated the labs and put flea collars on them and gave Rambeau another bath with Dawn as was suggested. Everything was washed and sprayed. This was one week ago, today Rambeau was so loaded with fleas again I gave him a flea bath and put a collar on him. The only good thing was seeing all of those dead flea bodies. No one else in the house is showing any signs of fleas only my little four pound munchkin. Any suggestions? His breeder said to use brewers yeast, but Ramby doesn't like them. Melissa and Rambeau (still itchy, itchy:mad:) |
Some products don't kill the eggs, and it sounds like a new batch hatched. I have read that it's a good idea to empty vacumm bag, and some people have said to put moth balls in bag, but I don't know if this works. |
Well, I know it's different in various parts of the country, but have you considered treating the lawn instead of putting so much on the lil doggie? Just a thought. :) |
It is flea season everywhere.. we always dread this time :( |
We had them several years ago and had to not only treat the dogs, but also the house (carpets, pillows etc). When we moved into our new house my husband treated the yard with nemitodes (probablly spelled wrong). We have not seen a flea in 15 years. Of course, we use Frontline also. Check with your garden center and see if they carry the stuff. It really worked great. |
Did you treat the yard? |
You need to treat your house and yard...if you keep flea treatment on your pets, any new fleas will die and be unable to reproduce. However, any fleas that reproduced before will have eggs that will hatch...it may take a while before you get everything under control. |
