Am I giving her enough of the raw diet? I switched Sydney over to the NV raw medallions. I am giving her 4 per day with a little kibble to graze on throughout the day. My question is am I giving her enough? She inhales the raw and looks at me like "Please give me more." She is 5.9 lbs last time she was weighed...also may be pregnant. (Will find out soon!!) I don't want to not give her enough but don't want to overfeed as this is sorta expensive food. lol Look forward to hearing from all you experts out there! |
Nature's Variety has a feeding guide on their website. For a 6 pound dog (can't do 5.9) with normal activity level who rotates varieties, they require about 2.6 oz. per day (one medallion is 1 oz.). This can vary from dog to dog though. |
i think you are giving her more than she needs unless she is preggy. you should go witht he chart on their site. |
Yeah unless she is pregnant - you are giving her plenty. I give my 10 pound cavalier 4-5 ounces / medallions a day and my 2.7 pound yorkie mix 2-2.5 a day. They look up at you for more because its so yummy!! :D |
Thanks everyone..... |
Any time. I am a devout raw feeder! |
There are many of us that feed NV on this site, I hope you get more replies. My first thought was that you may be overfeeding her. I am constantly surprised at how litte you have to feed of this brand because it is PACKED full of good stuff and none of the extra crap they don't need. My 4 and 5 lb dogs eat 3 medallions each per day according to the feeding guidelines. I feed them more of the kibble daily and then the medallions when they are being treated well :p They eat less than a quarter cup per feeding of the kibble. You should just go to Nature's Variety and use their feeding calculator. That's what I did and it has worked out well for us! Best of luck!! And I hope the best for you in the expecting situation too! |
I have 5 dogs on NV raw rotating with prey model raw and I think you should stop the kibble all together and cut back a bit on the NV. my 12 lber gets 4 medallions my 9 lber gets 3 medallions my 4 lber gets 2 medallions and my 2 3 lbers get 1.5 medallions. They always want more of anything good!! But 2-3% of the dog's body weight is the target otherwise you will be struggling to get the pounds off!! |

Granted, if she is pregnant, then she will need more. But NV usually gives feeding guidelines for pregnant dogs too. |
