Porky Yorkie Our routine every time we are home is to first take Toto to the groomer and then to see "Doctor Lucy". This time poor Toto got pretty much put through "the mill"!!! We have been so proud of the care we have been giving her ... well ... seems like we have been toooo good!!! "Miss Piggy" weighed in at 3 lbs 7 ozs and boy did we get a lecture!! :) Gotta lose those 7 ozs at least! Her little bone structure is tiny and the extra weight isn't good for her. Seems all that healthy "care" has been piling on weight! She said we have got be "Tough". We totally understand that it won't be good for her when she is older to be overweight and we are establishing her healthy eating habits now but it's really hard to see that little face so disappointed and look at us like .... "Hey, where's my sour cream"?? or "Excuse me, but I believe you forgot the Parm"?? She looks at her veggies like "I am not eating THAT!" She tried every trick she could come up with all day yesterday on the drive back to Lake Charles for a few Honeycomb cereal treats but I'm proud to say ... I didn't give in!! I feel so bad but we are going to stick by our guns for her sake!! :o We did get "A++" for her coat and overall care! She was also pleased that we have found a trainer and will get that started this week. We are hoping that the change in her diet along with the new exercise will trim her back down!! ;) |
Well....... With all the fancy couture fashions they have for dogs these days, you might be able to find a discreet girdle.....remember girdles? Awwwwww, I couldn't do that to a dog! Bettyanne, keep an eye on Patrick......I'm tough, but Don isn't.....HE is the one who is making a little beggar out of Higgins! Men. Sigh. With apologies to Fasteddie. |
Hahahah... it's okay Higgin's Mom. You can vent about men all you like, I hear plenty of it myself. :) But yes, bettyeanne, Toto must have one TINY body if 3 lbs 7 oz is too big for her body size. It is very hard to resist a Yorkie's cute smile and begging. We all need to be strict like Junebug and teach our Yorkies to "go to their bed" or corner or whereever when we are eating ourselves. That seems to work, as I don't recall Junebug saying she has a problem with Otis being overweight or begging for food anymore. :P |

Hahah, okay, that's pretty bad! We usually just smuggle him peas or bits of chicken meat.. The more you do it, the more they expect you to feed them when they beg. It's an endless cycle!!! |

Of course, sometimes I slip and give Otis a morsel or two here and there because he's sooo cute, but I really try to wait until the end of my meal....in fact, there's usually a little area on my plate with little pieces of meat that I'm saving for Otis later. Bettyeanne....you might also consider the fact that Toto's hair is longer and that adds couple of ounces to her weight....and was she wearing her harness at the time you weighed her? That adds ounces, too. Reminds me of me....everytime I get on the scale, I make sure I'm buck naked to make sure I don't add unnesessary pounds that don't belong to me! Otis definitely weighs more with his long hair in the wintertime. He has thick, wavey hair, and I believe it adds a couple of ounces to his overall weight...but he's always been around 7 pounds. |
Naw, it's a good thing, Junebug. I can't resist myself at times, unless Yoda is getting a bone that night. But most of the fried foods, or non-Yorkie friendly foods we definitely don't give to him. Heheh, 7 oz overweight! If he didn't poop before the doctor's office, that would affect his weight a bit too. :P |
Well, we are off to meet the groomer this morning so I put Higgin's harness on......er......I tried to......but it's been several weeks since he's had it on and IT WOULDN'T FIT around his ample little waist! Had to let it out about an inch and a half! Talk about Porky Yorky! Actually, he's just about right now. He has always been a little on the wiry side and the vet in Florida was concerned about him being a little too thin. He eats very well, but he RUNS and PLAYS and RUNS it off, too. I'll consult my computer guru husband and see if we can get some pics of the little guy up here soon...... Have a great day, everyone! And Bettye, it sure was great to talk to you last night! porkies :p Belle's a little beggar thanks to my boyfriend and his mom, they love to give her scraps... he's forbidden to do it now lol :D... but we found a new food for her that she absolutely LOVES... i dont know what the heck makes it so great to her, but she loves it (Royal Canin Yorkie #28) but she's not porky... some days she is...lol:woof: |
What a hysterical thread! I have only had Charlie for six weeks, and he is at the upper end of his "supposed" weight. Started out at 8#14 and now 9#7 or it could be more. Goes for an official weigh-in next week and the party is over. Switched from Buffalo to Orijen which is wonderful food but dense. He looks great, coat is shiny and growing back in, but can feel the "pinch an inch". Thanks for the laughter. PS Since we are both almost seniors, perhaps our metabolism has just slowed down  Good excuse. |
 I love that this thread was "raised from the dead"!! I had totally forgotten about it! Sad to say that our little Toto is more lbs. today than then! We have tried everything with the exception of starvation! She is 5 lbs. 2 oz. and the quantity of food she consumes in a day is unbelievably small. I get a tongue lashing every time Dr. Lucy sees her!! I would welcome only 7 oz. overweight!! The little fatty absolutely waddles when she walks. All we can do is keep trying! :( |
