Blood shot eyes! My little Pookie looks like he had a rough night on the town. He doesn't have anything in his eyes, but his hair falls down when he pulls his little rubber bands out. Do you guys think that it's his hair making his eyes red? I'm trying to be more precautious about keeping his hair back now that I've noticed that they are red. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Denise |
Do you mean the whites of his ears are red? If that's the case, it might be conjunctivitis and he needs to see a vet. |
what is conjunctivitis? |
is that like pink-eye? Gotta look that up. |

Is there any discharge? |
no, he does not have any discharge. About 3 weeks ago, he got a piece of grass in his eye. I'm just wondering if that has anything to do with it. We got the grass out, but maybe there is some still in there, or it caused his eye to become infected. |
Usually conjunc. is fairly obvious bc there is increased discharge that, if not treated, it turns greenish and is sort of stinky - and their eyes irritate them (they'll sometimes paw at them, and/or they sometimes begin to lick/bite their paws). A corneal abrasion will result in a dog trying to keep the eye closed (and is VERY painful) and there is watering, but not necessarily discharge. The conjuctiva should be pink, but not red.... :) |

As Ann said, conjunctivitis makes the eyes pink, not red. When Ellie had it she had discharge. |
Just updating you guys...Bernie's eyes have cleared up. I'm thinking that something in the air may have irritated his eyes. He's all good now. Thanks for all your posts. |
