Bully sticks smell, but I've gotten good reviews about the 5" sticks I carry not smelling bad.
They're only 69¢ each.

Are they really? Are they all bull penis? I have seen them at petsmart and it says bull tendons.

They have to be processed properly or they will smell badly. After they are "removed" they should be hung vertically until all the fluid drains from them. Then they are processed. My baby loves them! The ones I got from the pet store are pretty big. 12 inches long. The ones I got dont smell unless you put it up to your nose and smell it. But like someone else said on here, you put up with them (what they are) because they are safer. It looks like they form stringy stuff when chewed on instead of hard bits like a rawhide.

Yes, they really are made from a bull's penis, this particular organ would be called a tendon, rather than a muscle. Tendon just sounds better.

Does anyone know anything about Ranch Rewards Bully Sticks? I ordered them from Petedge.com for my Darwin and he's chewing away, but I went back to the website and it says "Processed with only hot water and peroxide. Dried using natural sunlight. Absolutely no chemicals are used at any time"

Is peroxide safe for the pups to be chewin and swallowing?

The ones I got do not smell that bad unless you sniff it up close...but it does have a outer casing which turns white and filmy after he chews on it...I'm still pretty grossed out that they are bull penises...

Will eating large amounts of this make his tummy upset? I've been giving it for about an hour at a time, then removing it.

Buster's bully sticks stink, too, but he goes crazy over them!

Oh my gosh.. I just stated on my ge post that we had not tried the bullie sticks and were willing to try them.. now I find out some are made in china..:eek:

I have read a few threads about people saying that their dog's got sick after ingesting Bully Sticks, but it turned out they were not Merricks Bully Sticks, I've done a little research on it, and as some of you already know, it's still not safe to get products that are made in China, any food product, or toys meant for children or pets. Their quality control just isn't very good, I know they take these things seriously because the presidents of the firms in question have committed suicide after this happened, however I think they will have to go several years without any mishaps, before people start trusting them again. The problem that I see, is that other countries might import from China, and then import here, saying it's from their country, how would you know? There are probably other safe Bully Sticks besides Merricks, but since they are the largest producer, if there was a problem you would hear about it faster than with the smaller companies where you are unlikely to hear of any problems ever. I have written the Merrick company about the safety of their product and I am satisfied with what I have learned.

By the way the question about them turning white when they are moist, that's natural, as they dry out again they darken.

Hi quick question... I just picked up bully sticks for Cassi (she's 6.5 months old and 2.8 lbs). Am I supposed to let her chew on them until it's totally gone or take them away from her once it's been chewed to the point where it's soft and stringy??

Soft and stringy is OK but when it gets down short enough to where they can get the whole thing in their mouths you should throw them away. Loki has swallowed them before and not choked but it's not worth the risk so if I notice them getting short I take them away. I had to teach Loki to spit them out in my hand because it was becoming an issue with him not letting me take them - we put a stop to that quickly. I usually replace it with a new one so it's not so bad when I take them away.

I usually give them longer or thicker sticks so that they don't eat them as quickly.

Thanks for your input...really appreciate it. I just took her bully stick away and now she's lying out in the sun...I think she may be exhausted from all that chewing. LOL

Also one of her baby molars came out....finally!
