lots of health problems Hello everyone ! This is my first post. I have had really bad luck with my little guy Buddy. He's a perfect angel but has had every health problem under the sun. He's currently on allergy shots, hypoallergenic food...this past week, he developed panceatitis...the vet has him on 2 antibiotics and sub Q fluids...I worry all of the time about him. This is just a small example of his total health picture...it's just too much to even write in a blog. I am so attached to him that I have gone without basic necessities to pay the vet bills, this is what we do when we care. I suspect that I am the victim of a backyard breeder although she was highly recommended as a reputable breeder in the Phoenix area. Buddy's brother died at age 6 so that's why I suspect bad breeding. The vet has not been real positive about this latest problem and I am afraid that this time I will lose Buddy. I would like to have another Yorkie, but I cannot go through this heartbreak again...how can I avoid being victim of this puppy mill problem? Does anyone know of someone who breeds healthy dogs in the Phoenix area? I have cried and cried until I can't cry anymore. I wished that people that breed dogs just for profit would consider the feelings of those that become attached to these poorly bred babies...these people know that the dogs aren't bred well yet they promote them as such and it's heartbreaking... |
I'm sorry for all the health problems.:( Ellie had pancreatitis too but it was very mild. She is fine now for the most part. It is not uncommon in Yorkies. It is very difficult to know 100% that the breeder you choose is responsible about it. The Breeders Section on Yorkie Talk might be a good place to start.:) |
Oh, I am so sorry for you and your poor baby!:( Welcome to YT! You have come to the right place for advice and help finding a good breeder. I don't know any in you area but I will keep a look out for you. :animal-pa Maybe someone on here will have some good quality babies in your area. I wish you lots of luck. ((HUGS)) to you and your sick little boy!! |
I know how you feel. My Maltese Lady is poorly bred and has so many health problems - epilepsy, diabetes, arthritis, hypothyroidism, allergies, plus chronic infections from the diabetes. "Bargain" puppies from backyard breeders are no bargain in the long run, are they? I'd suggest sticking with a breeder recommended by the YTCA. They are required to follow the Code of Ethics and Conduct and health test, breed to the standard, etc. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club |
Aww poor guy :( You have found the right place to get questions answered if that is what your looking for. Welcome to YT! :) Sending lots of P&PT Buddy's way......((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) |
Bless your heart..I hope that your baby is ok. We will keep him in our prayers. |
Sorry to hear about Buddy, poor guy. Have you just been going to the same vet and following his lead? If Buddy's has so many problems, maybe he should be seen by a specialty clinic. His problems may, or may not, be the result of bad breeding. From your post, it sounds like you're spending quite a lot on his care. If he hasn't yet been thoroughly checked out at a top notch vet clinic, it could be money well spent. Nothing replaces an accurate diagnosis. Your vet may merely be treating symptoms and not getting at the cause of Buddy's problems. Best of luck to you and Buddy. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
Hi, I'm from Chandler AZ, and I know what some people call good breeders and what I call a good breeder are two different things. I found my breeder through the YTCA, and had many conversations with her before I decided she was the best breeder for me. Take you time finding someone who knows the her lines well, and guarantees her pups. Here's a link to YTCA referrals. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club |
There are alot of horrendous breeders/greeders in Arizona. I would not be in any hurry to buy another pup. Please go to the dog shows coming up in October (there is one in Chino Valley in Sept). Talk with some of the breeder/exhibitors. Call some of the kennel clubs here:Superstition Kennel Club, Scottsdale Dog Fanciers, Kachina Kennel Club. See who they recommend. And as previously posted, look at the YTCA for breeders in Arizona. I am sorry about your little baby. |
