any suggestions please :confused: Hi there, I am new to this website, and so happy to have found it. I have a question. My little yorkie was limping on Monday and so I took her to the vet. The vet diagnosed her with dermititis, which she has an infection on her skin in between her toes. She seems to be in a lot of pain and can't use her leg. The vet gave me this cream to apply 3 x a day and I am having difficulty applying it in between her toes. I use a q-tip and apply the cream but she yelps and tries to wiggle herself out of my hand. I am concerned that I am not getting the cream in all her infected area. Any suggestions in getting in between her toes. perhaps I get scared myself when she yelps and screams out of pain and I don't use enough force to lock her down? mpark45 |
Call the vet back and ask for a spray form. They should have given you the spray form anyway, due to the fact that trying to spread their little toes is pretty hard to do. |
Welcome to YORKIETALK! It sounds like you are doing the cream right. Just love her a lot and talk softly to her while you are doing it. Do you have anyone to help you hold her? |
oh, i didn't know there was a spray form. Hmmm . . but i think I would still have to spread her toes apart to get the spray in there. But I'll ask the vet. Thanks |

Did they tell you what the suspected cause may be? What are you feeding her? Many little yorkies develop dermatitis as a result of food sensitivity. Making changes in her diet may help...Of course consult your vet before doing this! |
I can't speak for your little baby, but my little boy is such a cry baby, and will cry or whimper over the tiniest things (I think he is spoiled). Maybe she is just over reacting...Since you don't have help to hold her securly, have you tried to apply the cream while she is asleep? I can do just about anything to Thor while he is sleeping. You could try wrapping her in a towel to hold her securely in place with one paw sticking out at a time so that she can't fight you while applying the cream. Hope she gets better soon! Welcome to YT!!! |
I agree with Connie. I have to wrap TJ in a blanket or towel, making sure he is secure to be able to give him ANY kind of meds via mouth or ears. HE HATES IT ALL! Although Roxy on the other hand is scared and stays still if I put her on the counter &/or table, maybe try putting her there to put the cream on? Good Luck! |
