Bad breathe... please help I love my furbabies kisses but lately his breathe is absolutely aweful! we just moved to TX and my baby Dolce loves to eat grass, i dont know whether the different grass would make his breathe smell bad or what but I have to say that I dont want his kisses near my face because of the stench! I tried the yip-yap doggie breathemints but my little bugger is too picky with hard foods. I brush his teeth everyday but it's only been in the past 2 weeks or so that his breathe has smelled this bad. If anybody has any suggestions on what to do, please help! Thanks!:animal-pa |
How old is he? Their breath smells terrible when they're teething and getting ready to lose a tooth:rolleyes: |

bad breath Could be a rotten tooth. I knew Latte had one bad one, but her crowded lower teeth were rotten, too, in the front. They were pulled when she was about two. |
Bad Breath I hope Im doing this right.. Im new to this thread thing. But I am responding to the bad breath. My yorkie had bad breath from time to time. I noticed that he also belched a lot when he had bad breath. I found out it was the food I was feeding him. Of course I thought Beneful was a good thing.. not the case. On vet recommendations I switched him to Iams. I would also give him half an antacid pill I purchased at Walmart. That helped with both and he seemed a lot better. He was not teething and he didnt have any rotten teeth. I hope this helps you out. :aimeeyork |
oops. I duplicated my response. |
Bad breath can have a lot of reasons and it might be a good idea to see the vet. I don't like to scare you but it was when we went to the vet with Mitzi b/c of her really bad breath that her kidney faillure was diagnosed.... |
How old is he? If he is a puppy, he is probably either teething or has double rows of teeth. If he is an adult they probably need to be cleaned and some of them pulled (if they are loose). Are they brown or yellow? It could also indicate something else (like liver disease) but that wouldn't be as common. |
i agree if he's young, it's probably his teeth that is causing his breath to smell. Kash is 6 1/2 months old and has some rank breath. i know it's because his baby teeth haven't fallen out yet and are getting gross. i'm probably going to have to take him to the vet to get them pulled out... right now i'm just putting petzlife oral gel on them to get the plaque to go away. it's only been two days, so no results yet... good luck! |

My little guy is 5 months and 2 weeks old, perfectly white teeth, and every single one is his baby teeth, so I'm guessing that may be it. I will be trying the liquid oral care, do you just get that from anywhere? I hope it's not kidney failure or liver disease.... but I highly doubt it.Thanks so much for all the responses!!!!!! :animal-pa |

Oh yeah thats about the same time that Jamie started teething and his breath was AWFUL. At 6 1/2 months he had double rows (big boy teeth came in and baby teeth still not yet falling out) and it just got worse. I brushed and minted and did everything I could think of and it still smelled .... ugh... there is not even a word to describe how bad it was! Anyway we just stuck it out and once he was neutered and had the baby teeth pulled, his bad breath went away. So just be tough Mom! And give him lots of toys to chew on and play tugging games. ;) |
I just wanted to say thanks again to everybody who replied back. My baby boy lost his first tooth today!!! :jump28ib: I'm very excited, but sad that my little man is growing up. Hopefully, it will die down a little until his next tooth falls out! |
