Does $50 seem like alot for a 5 minute office visit? I had to take Cinnamon to the vet today because she is itching like crazy and has a rash. I love this vet in terms of how caring he is and how close he is to my house, 5 minutes away. In addition a friend of mine works there and can always get me in right away when she is on, so there are perks. However, I think they are overpriced and with 3 dogs, it is adding up. He spent probably 5 minutes with us, looked at the rash, didnt really offer any information and prescribed a medication. The charge was $48...I couldnt believe it. I am out of line or is that high? |
It sounds about right...remember they have overhead like everyone else to pay. Speak to them about a multipet discount. My vet does that. |
Hmm I just posted a thread about my neighbor's dog having a rash. It looks like her pups belly and chest had red speckled dot on it. Is that what your pups rash looks like? There are pictures posted on my thread if you look. What did he say caused it? What kind of medication did he give you? Sorry for the many questions lol I think my vet charges $45 for the main visit and than he would charge for thr medication, too. So I guess that's about average. |
I think part of it depends on how often you go, follow up visits are often less. |
My vet charges $48 for the initial visit and $35 for a followup. The price of office visits has skyrocketed in the past few years. |
Okay so it seems it is pretty typical. The rash is little red spots on her lower abdomne around her genitals and anal area and on one of her back legs. It is not just red dots really because some of the spots are a little bigger...poor thing she is miserable. |
My vet charges 33.00 for an office visit. I askd about a multi pet discount and they don't give one. Ihave 4 dogs that are always there so it gets really expensive. |
Ellie's vet office just went from $38 office calls to $40 office calls. Yours sounds pretty typical but this is $40 for a 10 minute appt. and all of my questions are answered and more than one thing can be diagnosed/treated in that appt. and the vet will often take more than 10 minutes. Ellie went to the vet the other night to have her paw looked at and she had a yeast infection in her ear. The office call was $40, then the cytology was $17, ear cleaner was $9.25 and the Otomax was $34.50...So, about $100 just for a yeast iinfection. I really like her vet though (she doesn't own the practice or have much control over prices anyway) and vets work just as hard as doctors, so they definately deserve a lot more than they are paid... |
Wow, am I feeling lucky... Currently my vet only charges for prices of medicines and shots if needed, no office visit charge unless it's just a checkup, and then that's $35 I think. I took Lily today and only paid $9 for some cough suppressants. (knock on wood!!) She (the vet) is AWESOME. |
Vets do not charge by the minute. The have an office visit charge...plus whatever else they do. While this vet is convenient for you, perhaps you could shop around until you find one that you like and is more in your price range. |
