Royal Canin & Stool Odor/Quantity Reduction Has anyone ever tried it and actually seen those benefits? We're indoors 99.9% of the time because we live in the big city with no yard and what they advertise is really attention-grabbing. The website is really in-depth when describing all the benefits of the food. It seems great...opinions anyone? |
I have no idea about the benefits claimed, but we have always used Royal Canin for our yorkies. I like the food alot. They don't seem to have any problems with it, their health is good. The puppies thrive on it too. |
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. I used Royal Canin for quite a while but I don't remember thinking their stools didn't smell any less than other brands we tried :D I think the raw diet is the only one that can actually claim that. We tried it but it just didn't work for us at the time. Now we use Innova Evo (tiny bits - grain free) and it's a better quality food but their stools still smell :D You might try the raw diet if you're looking for less smell  Good Luck! |
I hadn't heard about this either we use RC and Joey loves it, I have really never smelled his poop, so maybe it's working. I do know it contains corn glutten and some yorkies are alergic to corn. They usually have itching with it, if this is the case. So far we have had no problems. The food itself smells really good for a dog food, usually I can't stand the smell of dog food. |
The Breeder of my new puppy said she used RC one her yorkies and it turned there stool dark and bound them up. I'm not sure what brand she used but PM yorkielover4lif and she can tell you! |
The website calls it "The Odor Reduction Concept". They supposedly achieve this by limiting the quantity of indigestable protiens and adsorption of malodorous substances. There's a food mix especially for indoor dogs that pretty much encompasses this whole "Odor Reduction Concept" for the idea behind its creation. Heck, I'll give it a try....well, Chewie will, LOL! He's currently eating Hill's SD for puppies which is full of corn so I'm sure he doesnt have an allergy to it. I just havent heard many good things about Hills, so I'll let him finish off the bag and then start transitioning himself over to RC. |
We used RC Puppy 33 I believe it was for quite some time. I guess I just never really paid attention to it enough to tell a difference in smell once we changed to Solid Gold (think that was the name of it, lol, that was 2 brands ago) Koda & Kammie both go potty outside except for the occassonal accident when were gone more than a couple of hours. But I am interested to see if you can tell a difference. Keep us posted on how it goes for you or Chewie I should say, lol! Good luck :) |
I feel my boys Royal Canin. I notice no difference in quantity or odor from any other foods I've fed (eukanuba yorkie, natural balance, nutromax). Im actually going to switch to home feeding when Im done this bag of Royal Canin. |

Well, suppsodely there's a specific formula called "Indoor" that is supposed to have the odor/quantity reducing effects. You guys that use RC, were you buying the Indoor recipe? The one I'll be getting is the MINI Indoor Puppy 27. Then when he turns 8mo old, they have a mix especially for Yorkies called MINI Yorkshire 28. Are those the kinds you all were using? **Nancy~ Don't worry. I'll switch him over gradually :) |

I'm using the adult Yorkshire Terrier food, but I don't recall anything that said "Indoor Food". |
Some dogs have problems with royal canin because of the corn in it |
I tried RC with Bella and my moms yorkie and it totally constipated them so needless to say we stopped feeding that brand |

Royal Canin Food Products- dogs As far as the constipation goes...I guess we'll just have to see. Chewie loves his water so hopefully he doesn't have that kinda problem. After we started using a Brita filter, he can't get enough. It really does make the water taste so good! Also, coffee and tea taste better too. |
I use RC. It is great but she is develloping allergies to it... I am switching her right now to Wellness. Lots of dogs have allergies with Royal Canine. But if it works for you, it is a good food :) |
