Ear Scratching?
 
My 14 week old Yorkie has been scratching his ears a lot and shaking his head. He was treated for ear mites by his breeder's vet, and his ears look clean and don't smell bad at all. Could he just have water in them or something? He's been to the vet recently and she didn't see anything wrong either, but the scratching hasn't stopped. Any advice?

Since he is scratching and shaking there is something wrong.
Did the vet rule out sarcoptic and demodectic mites (not just ear mites)?
A skin scraping may be needed if the scratching doesn't stop.
Are his ears "crusty".

Thanks for the welcome!
When we got our puppy check up at the vet, he got a dose of Revolution, this was Monday. Then I used a storebought ear cleaner Tuesday, and as of today there's no more head shaking and very little scratching (he's more concerned about being introduced to a collar around his neck now :tongue:!)So one of those must have helped with whatever the problem was!
Thanks for the advice though, next time I'll be more persistant at the vet when I notice irregular behaviour!

Do you plan on walking him with the collar or is it just for identification?

It's for walking. I live in an apartment, so I don't have a backyard. The only time he gets to go outside is with a collar and leash. So I'm trying to let him get used to wearing one. We've been putting it on for a little longer every day so he can slowly get used to it. Still bothers him, but hopefully not for much longer!

Is there any way you could go buy a harness instead?
They are much healthier for Yorkies.
Then there is no pressure on their fragile necks.:)

I would if it became a problem, but when he's older I'd like to use a collar anyway, so I wanted to introduce it now. I realize they are more dangerous, but he is supervised 100% when it's on and I'm working on teaching him 'walking manners'. This way he'll never pull or need to be pulled and the collar shouldn't ever put pressure on his neck! He's been doing so good so we haven't had an issue with it yet! Don't worry though, I'm always on the lookout for anything that could harm my little pup.
