second time going under anesthesia??? okay... i'm about 90% sure that Kash is going to have to be put under anesthesia for a second time to get his baby teeth removed. i'm taking him to the vet today to have his teeth looked at, but i'm almost positive that the vet will tell me they have to be pulled because they just aren't coming out on their own, and it's starting to cause bad breath, and will most likely lead to worse problems. anyway, he was neutered on May 1, at which time, his adult teeth hadn't started coming in yet, and so, no baby teeth were pulled. now, almost 2 months later, he has two rows of teeth on the top front, and his canines are starting to come in... i'm so scared to have to put him under AGAIN. i would feel terrible if something bad happened. he's about 3.5 lbs... maybe 4 lbs. i don't have a choice, right? either i have to get the baby teeth pulled by the vet, or risk severe mouth problems later... has anyone had a similar experience? can anyone help ease my nerves? |
had the EXACT same thing happen. layla was spayed at 6 months and her adult teeth hadn't come in so i didn't think much of it.. and two months later she had to be put under again to have her baby teeth removed. She did MUCH better the second time.. still groggy but was quite content to eat her hard kibble which surprised me. It is nerve wracking and I too wish both could have been done at the same time but Layla came out of it great! |
Oh boy, I've been thinking about that too, I scheduled Max's clean up for next week, I need to recover from our last visit $ ,but just the thought of living him there, the anesthesia and the recovery makes me want to cancel. |
well, i took kash to the vet yesterday, and he told me i should wait another month before we put him under again to have them pulled. he thinks they may fall out on their own during the next month, but if they don't, then i'll have to have the vet pull them. the vet said he would be quicker to have the teeth pulled if the incisors (canines) were already completely out... but they have only just started to peek out of the gum line... also, the vet said Kash would only be under anesthesia for 5-10 minutes while his teeth are being pulled out, so i shouldn't worry about it. he's put my mind at ease for now... i just hope those teeth come out on their own. |
I think Kash and Ozzy are soul brothers :) Ozzy is right around Kashes age and he was neutered May 6th and he had no adult teeth in yet either. 2 days or so after his surgery all the little front teeth fell out on the bottom. He now has double canines on the top. This week his bottom canines fell out and he is mouthing alot so I'm hoping that the tops are coming out soon. Definately give him some more time. My vet said wait for a few more months to see if the adult teeth push out the baby. |
