when getting teeth extracted....??? should your vet do blood tests before to make sure Gracie is ok to go under? one of the vets I called said they do the other one said they dont usually but they will if i want them too... I told them that I would rather be safe then sorry... so what did your vets do? and if you didnt get the tests done how did your babies react? thanks in advanced |
Yes, I would always recommend bloodwork prior to anesthesia whenever possible. Same day is preferrable, same week is acceptable. How many teeth are being pulled? My little one had over 10 extracted during her spay. Poor baby! Good luck! |
she needs to have 6 pulled... :( |
Luckily for dogs its not nearly as bad then as for humans. Seriously, my Bean was delicately nibbling her sticks a day later and was totally not as big of a deal as I thought. the scariest thing is the anesthesia. |
I would do the blood test if possible, right before the surgery. They will check glucose levels to make sure you're pups sugar level is fine, especially if they are a very tiny dog, or can get hypoglycemic. Cindy |
how old is Gracie? is the teeth pulling happening during her spay? or has she already been spayed, and this is her second time going under? Kash was neutered on May 1, and now his adult teeth are coming in, and i am really, really hesitant to put him under again only a month and a half after the first time!!! i'm soooooooo scared to do it. but i also don't want him to have teeth problems in the future. i'm going to take him in so the vet can "assess" whether or not it's absolutely necessary to have them pulled. |
Yes, the blood glucose levels should be done same day. My baby had an IV also which and the doctor kept her hydrated and her blood sugar steady with a glucose drip. How old is Cash? |

are Kashes adult teeth that are coming in which ones are they? if they are his k9s then my vet said we needed to wait until they came in all the way before she would pull the baby k9s because she said it would mess up the adult teeth..?? good luck on Kash ;) |

I just had Pixie (2 1/2 years old) put under for dental and I had the bloodwork done. My vet said she wanted to take every precaution and I agree. Do you have to get her teeth done now could you wait until she gets spayed to limit the times she has to be put under? I am doing that with Roxie. |
Most vets will do pre-anesthisia testing these days. I would definately recommend having that done prior. If you are going to have him neutered, it's a good idea to have them both done at once..kill two birds w/ one stone.:) |

It will be there in case of an emergency and help keep her hydrated and her sugar stable. I wouldn't let Ellie be put under without one. |
