Is your furbaby extremely picky? Lulu is going to be 6 months at the end of June and she hates food, wants nothing to do with it and I'm at wits end. I've resorted to giving her table scraps because I'm afraid she won't eat if i don't. I hate doing that but I don't want her to starve herself either. I've tried mixing her food with the scraps, but she just picks it out. I've tried flavoring her food with meat juices but that doesn't work either. She was on Eukanuba and Cesar when I got her from the breeder but I heard that wasn't the best food for her. She is currently on Back to Basics now, if that helps. She doesn't even like treats! Any tips or suggestions? |
yes our furby s not bothered aout food too !!! train by treats ?? forget it she eats one or two and then thats it !! a little chicken ges down well also beef cut up finely, she wont eat anything too sloppy ie in gravy, wizz food up inc veg in a food prosessor, iv e had pretty good results but u have to keep changing the recipes !! |
Adie was a little pig when we first got her then she turned into a very VERY picky eater. Now she eats well. When she was in her picky phase I would give her boiled chicken and lean cuts of beef. If you can avoid table scraps do, I think it takes a long time to get them back onto regular dog food. Your little one may just be going through a phase so don't worry too much. |
My Biscuit Is Picky , Picky, Picky I can so relate to your problem picky puppy. My "Biscuit" also acts like he hates food! I am becoming neurotic about it:confused: I find myself spending so much time worrying, trying to figure out different foods that he may eat. I am successful at getting him to eat a little boiled chicken and rice, a few bites of cottage cheese, he does seem to like the pure turkey baby food, but only a couple little bites at a time , then he turns his nose up and walks away. He even does this with water , although I can get him to drink water by telling him what a good boy he is, when he first starts drinking. He is happy, energetic, lovable and acts perfectly normal. He just isn't interested in eating. Now and then he will get a real interest and eat several bites, most of the time ...a few bites. I do give him Nutrical twice a day just to keep his sugar up. If I try to keep coaxing him with the dish, after i set it down, he will push at the bowl over and over like he is trying to bury it! What a character. |
Wrigley is our picky eater and she goes through phases. Yorkies in general can be pretty picky and we have had to change food quite a few times, because she will stop eating it! They are on Innova now and we mix in a little wet Innova with it. We also mix in green beans & carrots. We warm it for a few seconds and it's been the best so far! |
Picky Eater Don't worry, that's a Yorkie, how else do you remain at an average of 5 to 7 pounds!!! Those divas and gents know the key to maintaining a waistline is to count calories!! Remember a healthy dog will not starve itself, first check with your vet to rule out any health issues, if your baby pass the health check forget trying to keep a yorkie on a feeding schedule...leave dog food out where your baby can get to it when hungry (just replace with fresh food daily...and throw out the left overs from the day before. (Do not give table scraps or you will end up with an unhealthy dog and poop clean up problems you don't want). I find my yorkie will gulp a bowl full on a Monday, turn her nose up to the same meal on a Tuesday, skip breakfast on a Wednesday and flip for food again on Thursday!! Yorkies are VERY finicky eaters. Let them graze and monitor them to take to the potty throughout the day. Here's the other thing we overlook... have you ever consider what size a yorkie stomach is?? It has to be tiny so it probably fills up quickly and empty slowly. |
I watched my daughter's dogs wolf down their dinner in a matter of seconds, and Sophie didn't eat a thing this weekend. We finally found food she liked, and the price went up to $15 per 3 lb bag:eek: Now we have new food, and she is okay with it. She also will only eat two types of treats. Whenever we go somewhere where they give dog treats I feel so bad because she sticks up her nose and pushes it away. The person giving it looks disappointed, I really don't like people to think that my dog is prissy since she is definitely not! |
If your yorkie continues on this path and becomes thin, then your baby needs to be checked out by a vet. |
She has been checked out by the vet and she is perfectly healthy. She isn't too thin where she looks sickly thank goodness. She goes soon for her rabbies shot so I will ask the vet if there are other foods that are good for her. Thank you for all your advice. |
Hi My Yorkie is 5 years old and there are some days where she will not eat anything at all that day nor drink water. I leave the food and water out for her so that she can get to it at any time, and change it daily...so honestly Yorkies seem to have that trait, which is disturbing for us as dog owners because we know that generally dogs have voracious appetites! Let us know what the vet says.... |
