how do i take my dogs temp?? what kind of thermometer do i use, where do i use it, and how? thanks!!! |
couple of options 1. rectal glass thermometer (which is my favorite and most reliable, IMO) 2. rectal digital thermometer (expensive, but reliable) I don't trust the whole ear thing with pets.... you can find glass thermometers on the internet sometimes (i have about 10 horded in my supply closet no one is allowed to touch without express written permission) |

I believe my vet said 102 in normal. :) |
a thermometer covered with lube up the bum is the way to take their temp. as far as temp ranges. i wouldn't worry if it was between 100 and 102.5. |
Normal temp. is 101 to 102.5 it can go as low as 100 with no worries. Rectally with a glass thermometer is the most accurate way to take their temperature imo. Make sure you lubricate it before insertion. |
Yes definitely lubricate it and please keep ahold of it too. |
how far is it supposed to go in and what do you use to lubricate it with? |

When I asked the same questions my vet said to use Vaseline. I bought a digital thermometer. It was the same one my vet had. It beeps and flashes when its done. Which is about 8 seconds to 10 seconds. I'm not sure about how far though. |
I would say a quarter to halfway and yep use vaseline. |
I put it in about 1 inch and use KY jelly. |
thanks for the info!!!:D |
