OH GOD. called around for spay prices... scary stuff I decided to call three places... the best three in the area according to references I got (including one spay/neuter clinic in the area, just to see) this one place wanted to charge me over 400 dollars!!!!!!! 1st place this was the breakdown: 50 for patient transfer (because we arent a patient there) 4 document transfer (because we arent a patient there) 310 for laser spay including blood work (they recommend) -60 for no laser spay 63 dollars for microchip (what!!) 9 dollars for each tooth extraction x 4 = 36 bucks yes same day spay said they use diff anesthsia for diff dogs and couldn't tell me which theyd be using. 403 dollars total!! 2nd place: then i called the spay neuter clinic which was very cheap. 30 for male neuter and 35 for female spay = nonrefundable 10 dollar deposit to hold spot. i kept trying to ask them questions about the procedure but they kept being rude and putting me on hold for LONG periods of time and then giving me another receptionist so i had to repeat myself!! i asked 3 times what was the anesthesia they used and they could not tell me if they used isoflurene or not. they just said they use a shot and gas & couldnt give me more information. UGH!! how irresponsible! i was going to inquire if they do teeth pulling and microchipping as well if i paid the additional, but after they couldnt answer simple questions & were RUDE, I just said BYE to them! the last one I called was my own vet.. and im glad they are the cheapest and I feel better with them because i know they are good and the vet is really nice & understandingand the receptionist gladly answered ALL of my hundreds of questions & was very comforting. here was there breakdown: 176 for spay without bloodwork -- i already got prespay bloodwork done, but ill do it again to be "safe" 225.75 with bloodwork 4 per tooth x 4 = 16 dollars 41 for microchip (home again) yes they use isoflurene and they can note that i am requesting it so the doctor will be sure to use it & it is same day surgery! morning 7:30- 8am drop off, then pick up in evening. total 290.75!!! I think that is a much better price... especially after the 400 dollar people. I made an appointment with them/my reg vet... so Pebbles is getting spayed next friday at 7:30 am!! AHH!!! i hope I am making the right decision & everything goes well!! I just cant believe how rude those spay/neuter clinic people were....:thumbdown |
We live in a world where you get what you pay for..it is sad. I am glad your vet turned out to be the best..Imagine if you went with the cheapest and something bad happened. You would have felt so bad..This can happen anywhere but I say, when it comes to such a big investment like our Yorkie babes..lets save the bargains for stuff like clothes, food, and cars..and spend every penny on healthcare..wishing your baby a safe sx.. |
Wow, different anesthesia for different dogs? Maybe for induction but maintenance should be Iso or Sevo, period. Does your vet do surgery on a heated surface and place an IV before starting? |

I am sooo... ugh there are no words. I just watched a video of a canine spay here(if you scroll down you can see it)... oh lord!! i am sooo nervous now :( my uterus hurts lol |
I just had Zoey spayed and paid $351. It was for the spay, office visit, blood work, iv, pain meds to come home, post surgical check to remove the sutures, antibiotics and her heartworm pills for six months....ooh and they plucked a few teeth while she was under. I was going to get her chipped but I got a bit iffy about that after reading a post here about a cancer study. It amazes me how much the stuff adds up to. It oculd have been worse had she been larger. My friend took her dog to my vet for a consult and her vaccination. Well her spay alone is $299 (she is 20 lbs), plus another $125 for the dental plus something else she had wanted....it was going to be like $500 and some change. Mind you my vet is very moderately priced. |
Our vet gave us an estimate of $250 for everything. I guess that's on par with everyone else. |
