two rows of front teeth????!!!!!
 

oh my i was lookin at abby's teeth last nite, and in the very front she has two teeth behind the two front ones!!! dooes this make sense to anyone? is this normal? please help i dont no wat to do. shud i ask the vet? she shud be getting spayed in about 3 weeks or so.

Yes, the vet will want to pull the baby teeth when she gets spayed. If not pulled, food can build up between the rows and cause real problems. This is very common and best done under anesthetic, so most people combine the procedures. It usually costs $5.00-10.00 a tooth. if done while getting spayed.

oh my goodness!! I swear I was about to post the exact same question...she has two teeth in a row on the bottom...So they have to have them pulled?

haha yea it looks kinds funny but at the same time its worrysome. i called the vet n they said that wen she goes in to do her spay in 3 weeks, they will take them out too. they said it wont hurt or b sore after. i hope they r not lieing. i also asked if they cud eat normal after n they said yea. ohh my poor baby

This is very common, Nancy has it right. They don't always have to have some pulled, but a lot do. You can encourage chew toys and such and that will help more come out on their own before the spay. The more come out on their own the better!

Now, don't be surprised to see little bits of blood on toys like the loofa dogs or other toys, that freaked me out at first. That's all part of the teething process. :thumbup:

If teething bothers them, a frozen washcloth to chew on helps, and Gizmo loved to chew on ice. They also have some puppy teething toys you can freeze.

Yes, talk to your vet. It's best to have it done at the same time as the spay so she doesn't have to be put under anesthesia any more than necessary.

Molly was just spayed and at the same time had four baby teeth removed; two upper and two lower. The adult teeth were already coming in and the baby teeth wouldn't budge. Some of her molars came out on their own, and the vet removed some molars that were already loose. I noticed her breath smelled better after having this done, so there must have been food stuck somewhere. She seemed sore the day after, but then was fine.

Whe Roxi was spayed in March, she had to have 16 teeth pulled!! She was a little "shark/yorkie"!! lol Very common....

holy god 16 teeth!!!!??? how did she after she came out? did she eat normal?

Mia had a double row of front teeth, but it only look about a week for those to fall out. Hopefully they will fall out before her appt! I actually extended Mia's spay out a month to let her baby teeth fall out so they wouldn't need to be pulled and I wouldn't have to spend the extra money. So far she's lost a lot!

how do u no which ones r the adult or the baby ones? which teeth r at the fron n which r at the back??!!:confused:
anyway thank god my vet pays a reg fee no matter how many teeth get pulled. if its 2 or 20 he only charges 30 extra. this is good for babies that need alot taken out but not for the others!! either way 30 wont make or break me... its all for my pumpkin pie sugar bun princess baby precious cute adorable little baby girl lol!! sorry i just had to ahah

Kissy is 8mo.old and has extra teeth on bottom also. Her breath is very bad.My question is ...will these teeth fall out on their own or do they need assistance?And,do all yorkies have this thing with their teeth?

If i remember correctly, the back teeth were the adult teeth, and the front are the baby teeth that eventually fell out.

His breath was so bad, and he wouldn't ever let me near his mouth. When I finally was able to, I found 2 loose teeth, and what might have been an abscess.

His breath was so bad that it was difficult to be near him. I'd bath him and he would be stinky later that same day.

So I finally took him to get the baby teeth removed, and here in northern calif, it cost about 400, which included neutering.

I was expecting to pay a whole lot more than that, so that is a relief. But I figure that 400 now vs many hundreds later for illnesses caused by abscesses and rotten teeth was worth it.

Now, he is happier, healthier, and he smells good!! I only have to bath him once a week, and he is much nicer to cuddle with now that he has fresh breath.

From what I hear, this is pretty common with Yorkies.

She came out like a champ... The next day she was eating totally normal. The mouth heals extremely fast.... But yeah, poor lil baby had 16 out!! I was a basket case!! lol

Mine also had between 10-15 pulled. They lost count because some were so tiny! The nurse at her vet nicknamed her Sharky. I thought she was going to be in sooo much pain, but the next day she was already (delicately) mouthing her chewy stick.

She was far more concerned with her tummy and the spay surgery then her mouth. This is extremely common in toy breeds. I had a male maltese growing up and he had the same thing and they pulled his baby teeth during his neuter. Some people think its genetic, some people think its random. Truth is, its not a big deal as long as they are pulled and most responsible breeders do try and breed this out of their lines.

For those interested - they are technically called retained 'deciduous' teeth. As others have said, the biggest problem is that food and gunk gets caught between the rows and causes tooth decay. Studies have shown that the plaque on teeth is the same plaque material that clogs arteries (all the more reason to brush your pup's teeth daily.) Additionally, baby teeth still in place can cause adult teeth to shift while they are growing in, ruining the dogs bite or worse, causing gum irritation.

Please consult with your vet regarding teeth prior to the dog's spay or neuter - he or she may suggest that you wait until the puppy is a little older to allow baby teeth to fall out or allow more adult teeth to come in to see which teeth will be retained. Its not ideal to have to use anesthesia more then once.

On a personal note, I was more freaked about my girls teeth being pulled then the actual spay and teeth pulling was not a big deal for her at all in terms of recovery. I feed raw, so I just made sure it was really soft and mushy for a few days after and within three days she was full force gnawing again on her bully sticks. Good Luck!
