Yearly Teeth Cleaning and Being put "Under" Is it advisable to have your dog's teeth cleaned on an annual basis, and to be put under? The last time I got Otis's teeth cleaned, the vet advised me it's not a good idea to put such small dogs under all the time. So other than regular brushing or scaling, how are we supposed to deep clean teeth? |
My old vet recommended having the full teeth cleaning only every 3 years. He said as long as I fed them a hard kibble and brushed their teeth on a regular basis it would be unlikely they'd need to have their teeth cleaned more often that that. He said that they would just check them at their yearly check up to see if they needed anything done sooner than that. I'm loathe to put my dogs under so I'm probably going to stick with that 3 year plan unless there is a reason to do it earlier than that. |
I think my vet also says every 3 years...I scrub Maximus' teeth once a day, but since his neutering I felt bad and gave him a week off....well this morning he got his teethbrushed and he was as annoyed with me as ever...lol |
My vets never mentioned anything to me about teeth cleaning. So I wonder if this is something you initiate or they do?? |
Your vet probably checks their teeth when you take them in for the annual checkup. At least, mine always did. :) |
