When is thin to thin? My dog eats yet he doesn't seem to put on alot of weight. I don't know anybody else with Yorkies so I don't have anything to compare him to. With his hair long you cannot tell until you touch him or he gets wet and then you can tell. I just don't know what is normal. I had a hard time trying to get him eat but for the last few mths I have been cooking for him to get him to eat but if I go away for a few days on business he dosn't eat much and then we are back where we strated from. We give him nutra-cal when he is not eating. I just don't know if my dog is normal or under weight. He is smaller than I thought he was going to be because of his parents but I am happy with that. I just don't know if I am freaking out over nothing. |
What does your vet say? How much does he weight? Is he staying active and playing? It would help if you post a picture. I'm sure you'll get good advise here, good luck. |
What does your vet say ? It's best to check out everything in case there is a reason he is not putting weight on , Lottie is quite thin as she is allways on the go I can feel her little ribs but they dont stick out so I dont worry about her too much as she eats but if your little one is not eating he may be a little underweight, it may give people an idea of his stature if you post his photo on and his weight details.:aimeeyork |
My Baby is 7 months old and weighs about 3lbs 13oz. When I got him at 9.5 weeks he weighed 2lbs 8oz, so he really hasn't gained that much. His Mom is 6.75 and Dad is 4.5. Obviously he's taking after Dad :D My vet says that we may get to 4.5 with a real stretch being 5lbs! He isn't super into food and eats about 1/4 of kibble and about 1/4 of wet if it's a good day. Some days he eats less. He's just a busy bee and I have to put food in balls and play with him to eat. I call him my peanut or skinny minny. He just got a haircut and holy cow I think he lost at least a few ounces there  How old is your baby and how much does he weigh? |
i worried alot too when Bella was a baby because she always seemed hungry. my vet said...if you can feel her ribs but not see them she is ok!;);) |
Do you leave food out for him? Or will he eat dry food? I leave it out all the time for Suzi, and she goes to it whenever she is hungry, AND I also feed her canned puppy food, and a bit of white chicken meat... :aimeeyork Suzi is on the lean side too. She goes to the vet today, a month ago she was 3.5 lbs. I think she has gained some weight now. Maybe 4 or 4.5 lbs. :aimeeyork |
Keep in mind that most people's dogs (1 in 3) is obese, so make sure to listen to your vet (as everyone else in the thread has said) and trust your instinct. My vet always says its better to be a little skinny then overweight. Puppies are usually pretty thin since they are growing. Once your pup hits about nine months you'll be able to determine an ideal weight with your vet. In the meantime, feel her ribs and butt, if the bones are really sticking out, try a but more food each day, otherwise, I think you are ok. |
