How often do You Bathe, and How much does your eat? How often do you give your dog a bath? I try to go two weeks, but she gets looking oily and dirty. Is once a week too often? Also, how much does your dog eat? She is 5 months, and does not eat a cupful a day at all. I dop't give her snacks but rather keep some food in my pocket and give it to her to praise her when she goes potty, etc. She doesn't know the difference. Also, How many of your are COMPLETELY house broken? Misty will do good, but then poop or pee. She hasn't learned to let us know yet. She will stand by the door, but if we don't see her, she goes in the house. How can you get them to bar, or scratch or something to let one know? Thanks Pat |

I have to bathe Baxter twice a week. I know it is too much but I swear he rolls on the ground in the grass, in the sand, mud, whatever. And that is with the leash on. The water is plain dirty after he gets his bath. He is 5 months also. Doing pretty good on the house training but sometimes still messes up. He doesn't eat a whole lot. He weighs 5 lbs. I am hoping he will get to at least 7. His daddy was 5 and his mommy 7 lbs. I am constantly stepping on him. I don't see how people with itty-bitties take care of them. |
Elvis is 7 months old (today). He weighs approx 4.5 to 5.0 lbs, will find out next week just how much. He is pee pad trained and now fully goes on his pads. He will run down the hall from where ever he was and go straight to his pad and do his business...thank goodness he remembers to do that! He eats 1/2 to 3/4 cups of food each day. I give him a little carrot every morning while I make my breakfast...he plays with it first. He gets a cheerio as a treat for going potty, when we see him actually doing it, that is. Oh yes, I bathe him once a week. |
Tippy gets a bath every 2 weeks as well. and i was wondering the same thing, cuz hers gets really greasy as well. I don't think any yorkie is completely house trained lol:D |
My gang get a bath once a week. I feed them twice a day. (They eat the Raw Medallions from NV) My first two (Autumn and Blaze) are both completely house trained but Chance (our new rescue) is working well on it!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I bathe my babies once a week. Although Kylie sometimes gets a bath every 4-5 days, she has allergy problems, so her skin can get quite oily at times. Max will sometimes get a bath every 4-5 days also, because he loves to be outside running around and rolling around in the grass. They all eat twice a day, they eat Nature's Variety Instinct Kibble in the morning and then the raw medallions when I get home from work. Potty training, my 4 adults are completely potty trained, however my 1 1/2 yr old Max has the occasional accident. |
Bella gets a bath once a week to every other depending on how much she plays on the beach. She eats 1/4-1/2 of dry dog food a day. It only took us about 2 weeks to potty train her when she was a baby at 12wks old she goes on pee -pads (she's 2 yrs old now). |
Mia gets a bath about every 5 days or so.... depends on how much she plays outside. She eats about 1/4 cup of dry kibble total in one day with one small scoop of wet in the morning and at night. |
We just started bathing Javah this past month and it's been every other week. Before we would take him to be groomed, Once a month. He eats 1/2 to 3/4 a day and weighs 6lbs, 6months old. He also goes right to his pads, even when he had guaridia (sp) with the diarrhea he would run wherever he was at to get to the pad. LOL |
I just got my yorkie - Kobe. He's about 2.2lbs and 9 weeks old. We had an issue with eating at first too. He eats Merricks Puppy Plate mixed with Royal Canin dry. But Ihave to puree the Merricks because the chicken chunks are too big. So he eats two tablespoonsof the Merrick mixed with a little kibble in the morning and for dinner. Lunch is just kibble. He seems to like that. But I've onl had him about two weeks now. I gave him a bath the first week and his coat is already oily. Is once a week too much? Does anyone use a blow dryer to dry them off? I also had a question about the tears. I noticed yesterday that he had tear build up at the corner of his eyes. What's the best way to get rid of them? |

I have read so much on here that I am kinda wondering how big she will get now after hearing some of ya all talk about "mommy & daddy weighed 5# and puppy is 12#"?? She eats real good and seems to be doing fine?? She goes back for her last shots (3rd. one) in 2 weeks. She is doing better everyday I think w/potty but still goes on the floor if I don't watch her close!! Sleeps with me in bed...sleeps all night though and holds it till morning so that's ok too!! Better than screaming in that crate all night!! She won that battle!!lol When I have to leave her now I put her in the bathroom with her food and water and pee pad and toys and she does great like that!! I have an xpen out in the front yard and we go potty there so she can't run from me!! I have to get a gate to block the porch so she can't run off there now that she's going to the door. She is fast and wild!!lol Tried 2 different kinds of harness....no way....ordered one of the "silk ones" on here and another "Puppia" one is on the way?? She'll catch on to it all in time I'm sure ... one step at a time!!lol This site is wonderful and everyone here has been so nice to help with everything!! Thanks to all of you!! |
I've been bathing Darwin once/week, he gets smelly if I go longer than that. He also likes to roll around in grass and likes to get down and dirty. He HATES his baths...I am literally in the tub with him and he's still scrambling to get out, and I haven't quite figured out how to bath his face properly (I use baby no tears shampoo) b/c he wriggles so much! Does anyone put cotton balls in their ears? His ears go back whenever he's in the bathtub, so I don't think water can get in anyway. He eats about 1/2 cup of dry food (Bil Jac/Royal Canine mix) a day, I just put it down in the morning, and he nibbles on it. Then around 6pm he gets 1/3 packet of wet dog food with a bit of cheese sprinkled on top! He loves the wet food and horks it all down! |

Mac is almost 14 weeks old and around 2-1/2 pounds. He eats a total of about 1/4 cup of Royal Canin mini each day (1/2 at breakfast and 1/2 at dinner). I give him a bath about every 2 weeks. I'm not sure which of us ends up wetter! |
My Jini takes her bath once a week (every Saturday). I free-feed her, means I just leave a cupfull of kibbles and add some more if she consumes it. I don't think they will over feed themselves so it's fine. On my calculation at 5 months my yorkie consumes 3/4 cup per day. |
We got Joey a bell from the office supply store, you know the kind they use on reception counters, but many people use a string of bells, and I think some people on YT make these. There is lots of information in the training forum on how to this, but basically you first train them to use the bell, by reinforcing with food every time they touch it, and then finally only when they are ringing it. After they can ring the bell on command, give small treat, and open door. He rings it more for just wanting to go outside to bark at a dog he sees in the park, but at least this has cut down on the barking in the house. He'll see a dog in the park – runs to the bell – rings it – and rushes outside barking. Lol, it cracks me up every time, but you always have to open the door when they ring it, or they will learn to bark instead – that always gets our attention. |
kGosh kthanks every one for all the nice answers. I guess she is eating enough. She eats about 3/4 a cuop a day and every once in awhile she will eat a cup. I give her a little bit of apple in the morning on the dry food and it gets her going. Then at supper, I always put some chicken or other meat on it (very small amount) and she will eat again. Dr. said not to just keep it on the floor but ot feed twice a day. Said it would cut down on the amount of times she has to go poo. So thankful I can bathe her once a week. Been making myself go two weeks and it was driving me crazy. I can't stand to have her cirty. As for the tears, every morning I take her to the sink, brush her teeth, wash her eyes out with cotton and warm water and brush her--then her regular food treat! Ha! Thanks EVERYONE! Pat |
I usually give my 3 baths every 2-3 weeks depending on how their hair looks. But after next week I will have to adjust the bathing schedule when Friday gets here. I have 3 feeding stations , one for each dog. 2 of the feeding stations are just water and one is just dry kibble. I free feed but I only put one cup of food in each bowl. And by bedtime there is usually still some left. They get 2 bowls to share in the morning with a slice each of the NB food roll. and for their treats sometimes they get a slice of the NB and sometimes they get pupcorn which they love. |
Buddy gets a bath once a week, which will be today along with a nail trim. He is 9 months now and is down to eating between 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food a day(dry food), which is what our dog offod suggests. We feed him twice a day in measured amounts so he does not get over/under fed but his food is left out for him to nibble on all day. |
How much does Buddy weigh? What age did he calm down enough to let you cut his nails etc???? What kind of food do you feed him? |
Buddy is almost 6 lbs and has been since he was 7 months old. We recently just switched him to feeding him Wellness, he was previously on Nutro ultra holistic. When he was very young I would cut his nails while he was sleeping on my lap, as he got older that was no longer an option. Now I actually do it while he is in the tub for his bath, it is akward to get used to but it is the only time he will let me do it and I have to try to be quick. He has always been very calm during his bath and until I get him brushed afterwards so I finally decided to try it one day and he actually tolerated me cutting them so that is the only time I do it now. If he has a week where he is getting ansy I might only do the back and then the next week I will do the front. I just finished his bath today and got them all clipped. Next step is putting the hair band in, that part is hard for his to hold still for. |
Okay, I was worried because Misty doesn't eat a whole c up of dog food a dayi. She weighs 6# and is 6 months old. I was getting worried, but I guess it is alright seeing as I give her tiny bits of apple in the morning with it, and small little bit of chicken at dinner time to get her interested in eating. She also gets a puppy bone after she gets cleaned up in the morning. So, I guess she won't die. She is v e r y long and thin. Looks like a tube when she is wet! She is great for brushing teeth wiping out eyes, and combing in the morning. In fact, she will wait by the kitchen sink if I am too loong. The nail clipping thing scares me to death! I wish they had white nails so one could see the blood line! Pat |
Teddi gets fed 2x a day and gets a little less than 1/4 a cup a day - maybe about 20 kibbled each time. She also gets a bath once a week. |
Baxter is long and thin also. He recently got shaved and i realized how skinny he is. He eats well. i've decided just because I'm fat doesn't mean he has to be. He always has food in his bowl so he mustn't be hungry. |
