Causes of itchiness?? I know I've seen a lot of threads about itchiness lately, but I could use some advice :). Sebastian has been itchy since he was about 4 months old. He's not itching constantly, but I do notice it on and off throughout the day. He's been on Advantix since I got him, and I don't see any signs of fleas. His eyes run a little bit. Do most Yorkie's eyes run? With all the threads about fleas lately, I've been a little freaked out about that...but I really don't think that's what it is. Could it be an allergy to his food? He's always been on Nature's Variety Chicken and Rice kibble. He doesn't have any intestinal problems...and always has very normal poo. I talked to my vet about it when it started and they didn't seem concerned and didn't have much advice to offer. |
Lucy had itchiness and allergies until I switched her over to raw food. She hasn't had an incident since :) |

oh you might also want to try a grain free food- i know Innova and Orijen both make grain free. Layla is allergic to wheat and corn. Orijen also makes a food with fish as the base meat. might also want to try something like that. |
Cali has year round allergies and we can't find out to what so I cut out grains and chicken which didn't help much. I now have her on Atopica which hasn't done a lot yet. It is so hard to see them scratch all the time. |
Also, if he is having a particularly bad day, you can give him children's liquid benedryl . It will relieve the itching and watering eyes. Like patti said, Layla also has seasonal allergies but because we get snow here in the winter they are just summer/spring. Allergies are TOUGH. it's hard to know what it is but if youc an get rid of the usual suspects it might help. I was lucky and we found out through elimination but you may have to go for allergy testing. Layla is also allergic to milk products so if he gets yogurt or whateer you might want to cut that out of his diet as well. Hang in there :) it's very hard but there are many going through it with you! |
He has also been sneezing a lot since spring. I didn't even think about a dog having seasonal allergies. But, I bet that could be part of it too. I think I will try switching his food. A local pet store started carrying Natural Balance. I heard that can be good for Allergies. Anyone have experience with that brand and know if it is a good dog food? |
